Why does the Govt. "need to announce" terra information?
Why can't they just do thier jobs?

Does a municipal police department announce everyday to the public who they are chasing or looking for? NO...they do thier jobs.

Ask people this question... see what they say.

1. Why, what else?....
It's to push any other news off the front pages, especially anything having to do with the Kerry/Edwards Campaign.

3. I think if this question were asked...people would start to get pissed
at AWOL and the media.

Just do you damn jobs ... fight crime and terra....quit announcing every damn time you hear, see , suspect, or sleep wrong at night.

Dean was right...AWOL is politicizing this issue.

5. To cover their asses
in addition to crowding other things out of the news media, as others said. If anything happens, they want to be able to say they "warned" us all (as if there were anything we could do about it).

6. The Big Dog never had to announce he was stopping an attack.
He just did.

That's how ADULTS do it.

9. That's true. And it seems like you're more likely to catch people
if you don't announce everything you know, too! They didn't just warn away the millenium attack, they actually caught terrorists.

10. No shizzle.
If they were truly going after terror they would announce it AFTER they did the action.

This mis-administration is all about the mind control of Americans, not stopping "terror".

Hook 'em.

8. The official "rationale" given in interviews this morning
is that terrorist planning slows down when terrorist plots are exposed. Supposedly, they'll delay carrying out their plan or do something different at the last minute, decreasing their chances of success.

Sounds like a "win-win" situation for the administration -- if something happens, well, they warned us, didn't they? And if nothing happens, it was their warning that scared them off. And how does one prove that there was no "there" there, if that's the case?

11. I was watching the 'news' this morning
When they announced the terror 'threat'I shouted 'bullshit' at the TV. I told my husband (who was looking at me like I lost my mind) that it was probably bogus, because why announce that there is a threat? Why not just stop it and then announce that there was a threat, but we stopped it?

this is just a way to keep us scared. Scared enough to give Bush 4 more years...

12. Because
This is a warm-up pitch. They know there is no real terrorist threat, the threats will be used to cancel or delay elections indefinitely.

13. My theory...
as someone has already suggested, but I'll add more to it: CYA, but that is because they do not have any way to stop a terrorist attack--they don't know what the fuck they're doing. At least if they warn us, somehow we're supposed to believe they are 'on top of things' when the opposite is true. Let's face it, the Bush administration has other priorities than to keep the American people safe. Their first and only aim is to line their pockets, then get re-elected so they can line their pockets some more. That is all. Clinton didn't have to pull this crap because he was actually doing something to stop terrorists from carrying out an attack (ex: Y2K).

17. That's what I'm saying!
The ONLY possible reason to "announce" the crap every single time is to help perpetuate the feeling of fear that some stupid people seem intent on keeping alive.

Also, to me, it only shows that we cannot trust them to do their jobs. They have to have us to help them, apparently.
