something fishy here
the DNC was a huge success, JRE and JFK gave the speeches of their lives, afghanistan is back in the hands of the taliban, iraq is a quagmire, the "recovery" is over after three months, the administration's crimes continue to pile up, bush still cannot utter a sentence, yet the race is still close. Are they setting us up for an invisible diebolding in november?

3. As much as I trust polls and the polling process
I don't think the polls show anything like what most people are saying and how they feel. That isn't from just hopefulness but from almost everyone that I have talked to. I think there are big numbers of people who will be registering to vote simply to get rid of W&Co.-Americans don't like the political extremes.

What you say could very well be the case too but I think it has more to do with keeping the product alive. If they just came out and said that Kerry was winning all over the place it would be like '96 when everyone concluded that the race was already over and no one paid attention to CNN etc.

4. None of that matters...

The economy, Iraq, Afghanistan, the administration's shady business, Bush's speaking skills... none of that matters! There are entirely too many people in this country who will vote for Bush, Inc. out of fear. They fear more terrorist attacks, and believe Bush, Inc. is the only thing that can protect them. Or they fear what they see as unrelenting attacks on family (read "Christian") values and believe Bush, Inc. is their best defense.

6. Excellent observation...If I recall correctly...
The polls for sElection2000 on the eve of the election had Bush over Gore by a few points. Then WHAM!, we find out the REAL truth after discovering that Gore won the popular vote by over 500,000 votes.

So what was up with the polls?

I believe the Bushistas KNEW Gore was ahead in the polls, so they propagated this "close race" bullshit in order to create the illusion that it was a tossup until election day, even putting out the "polls" that so Bush slightly ahead. This was merely a prelude to the Florida fix when Jeb and Katherine would seal George's "victory" and no one would be the wiser (after all, it was a "close race" and the "polls" showed Bush slightly ahead on the eve of the election). However, things got a little out of hand and we saw a little of the fix when the networks called the election for Gore, then rescinded that call and went with Bush after Bush's first cousin, John Ellis, at FOX called it for George.

This created confusion and doubt that the Bushistas hadn't anticipated, which required them to bring in James Baker to stop the recount; the "fix" was fixed.

I'm a bit amused that they would try it again! Apparently, the Bushistas believe no one is paying attention...again.

And whatever happened to VNS (Voter News Service)?
