Just got back home from the "State of Jefferson" to find that Air America is on AM 1240! Great news for me..... Old news for you? I don't know, but it sure made my day! Can't wait to hear more of their programing.

3. Central Coast here. Can hardly get any radio here..
KGO is about it. I go to internet once in a while for other hosts. That's fine, but it makes it hard for me to take my "computer radio" to the next room or out into the yard or hear it in my car. LOL

I want to hear AAR toooooooooooo, damnit.

9. Santa Cruz. Monterey Bay area....
I've got a weak signal...gonna go find another radio in hubby's room.

It's really shocking to live in a place like this and have almost solid conservative radio...Savage, limbaugh, etc.

10. Isn't it bad?
It was all I could get in talk radio until Air America started up. It's a breath of liberal fresh air. That's for sure.

16. A place like this?
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 12:12 AM by Liberal_Guerilla
Having lived in Santa Cruz for 25 years. I had found that if it wasn't for the University, Santa Cruz would be like Santa Barbara maybe worst. It has a heavy conservative under tow.

21. Do you live here now??? Wooohoooo
Yes, the 'cruz does have a strong conservative lean NOW. It always had it's elements, but years ago this was a wide open place in terms of progressive thought, maybe too much even. Boy, those were the days...lots of fun too. :D

The university does help. More religious influence than ever before, a huge influx of Silicon Valley wealth... it's changed. I don't like that.........still it is a beautiful place to live if one can afford it, yes?

Anyway, if you live here then: HOWDY NEIGHBOR! That's exciting! :hi:

I moved in August of 2001 to Sherwood Oregon, a suburb outside of Portland. But I had lived downtown on Chestnut St(a block and a half east of 7/11 on Laurel St. A light blue and white trim victorian home.)for many, many years. I do miss old Santa Cruz, pre Earthquake. It really is not the same place no matter how hard I tried to hold on to it.

But it still is an island of sanity in a sea of madness. Here in the burbs, it has taken some adjusting to, but there are Kerry for prez stickers starting to pop up everywhere. There is hope.

What I find amusing is that Portland people consider themselves progressives but compared to the intelligent and informed population of Santa Cruz progressives, the Portlanders actually come off quite centrist. But hey, At this point, I take what I can get. Beggars can't be choosers.

My last job in Santa Cruz was as a bus driver for Santa Cruz Metro. So if you ride the bus, be kind to the driver. Most people don't realize what a jard job it is.

Nice to chat with someone from Santa Cruz. Sometimes I do wish that I could turn back time.

23. Omg!! Bus driver???
While I'm sad I don't have a DUer for a "neighbor" it is exciting and interesting to know you all the same...not only that, but you were a bus driver?

Well, guess what. My hubby may know you. He was involved in what is now a falling apart metro task force-->MASTF.. "Pop"

He rode the buses ALL the time, uses a wheelchair, promoted accessiblity issues et al. He knows practically all the drivers old and new. If you remember, he'll be delighted, I'm sure. I won't say anymore here..PM is better.

Anyway, best wishes in your new community and great good luck to all the Dems for Kerry in that region.

I've added you to my buddy list. :hi:

13. That would be good news. KSCO is the biggest one we have
and it was taken over by a hard conservative, right after the Loma Prieta quake. Michael Szwerling owner.

Some folks were telling hubby that there IS suppose to be a station (liberal) but he doesn't remember what they said and we can't find it. Mts. keep signals pretty weak around here.

Got the CCrane radio out now....I'll check back later. Thanks all.

15. Update... Just went to my local Radio webpage.
I discovered that the owner would not carry Al Franken's program because AAR/Franken asked that the owner carry other personalities besides Al. The owner (Michael Zwerling) said he couldn't do that.

KSCO said it didn't have the time nor space for it; it also said they would wait to see if there was any "interest" in the Franken programming before they made a decision. KSCO carries Savage, Limpballs, Colmes, Art Bell, O'Reilly, on and on... No liberal hosts.

I just wrote to them to voice my "opinion". It's funny, I never even thought about fighting my local radio station. It has been so right wing, I didn't think any more about it figuring it was useless. I never turn it on. Silly me.

Odd, we can only receive it in the daytime... Well, Bernie Ward on KGO still gets our ears at nightime, anyway.

19. Curious
Can you receive KGO's blowtorch signal at nightime? I was amazed that it is such a strong signal in LA and San Diego at nightime (I could even pick it up on a sailboat most of the way to Cabo San Lucas), and I wonder if it reaches your little corner of the world.

Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 02:29 AM by mitchtv
so I use the internet.I like to listen to them on my small radio in bed, but my clock radio is no good. I used to hear people from Palm Springs call Bernie and Ray, so I know it can be done. Some kind of antenna is probably all I need, or move my bed to the front of the house. It comes in , then fades etc.I intend to look for AAR on the SanDiego am station It depends how high they puttheir antenna, its not far as the crow flies.
