The "limited hangout" of Larry Franklin
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 09:43 AM by Minstrel Boy
An interesting read on the "Israeli spy scandal" today by xymphora, following upon yesterday's New York Times revelation that Franklin had been cooperating with the FBI for weeks, and "was preparing to lead the authorities to contacts inside the Israeli government when the case became publicly known last week"; Also, that "news reports about the inquiry compromised important investigative steps, like the effort to follow the trail back to the Israelis":

The line will be that the unfortunate leak has made it impossible to trace the connections back to Israel, and thus this whole investigation has to be abandoned. From the neocon point of view, the essential treasure to keep hidden is the extremely odd relationship between the military dictatorship that runs Israel and the military dictatorship that runs the United States. This is such an important secret to keep that it was worth creating a "limited hangout", implicating a relatively minor functionary connected with the neocons and even temporarily embarrassing AIPAC. The whole thing is almost certainly fake, with Franklin having done nothing wrong. Already the story is being polished, with Franklin being described as "naive" and "strange". His role in the Pentagon, and even his competence at his job, is also being denigrated. The spin will be that his stupidity may have led him to inadvertently disclose to AIPAC officials information which he did not realize was sensitive. The AIPAC officials will be said to have received this information innocently, and the whole incident will be shelved. As the FBI operation has been "blown", any investigation of the deep issues will be dropped, with the added bonus that there will be no more wiretaps of AIPAC (I'd like to know which FBI official has such enormous balls that he would approve the surveillance of AIPAC in the political climate in the United States today). The investigation of the Office of Special Plans will be hobbled until Bush wins the election (the FBI is already "wrapping this thing up"), at which point it will quietly disappear. Franklin probably won't even be indited, and certainly nobody at AIPAC will feel the slightest pressure (an apology to AIPAC and to Israel is probably in the works). All in all, a very successful leak.

1. As sick as it makes me, I think this is 100% correct
And it is disgusting. I hope to hell we are both wrong, but nary a peep from the same folks who yelled from the mountain tops about Sandy Berger "stuffing classified state secrets down his pants and socks".

How the hell do you smooth over such serious allegations, that hit so close to home w/AIPAC and all the Israel fanatics in our own gov't? We are questioning the true allegiance of our own gov't employees - to the US or to a foreign state, and NOBODY IS PAYING ATTENTION!!!!

:nuke:

2. Does this mean the Israel-U.S. strike against Iran is coming soon?
Who is investigating whom?

It is very obvious that the military runs this country.

Our Congress is a sham.

3. That's how I would read it...Israel starts it, then we step in.
That's how it will be justified to the American Sheeple.
Israel will have it's own Gulf of Tonkin incident, and of course we will come to the aid of "our friends".

All agreed upon in advance with the moles in our own gov't, aided and abetted by AIPAC.

5. AIPEC AEI and JINSA with orders from PNAC
PNAC - Dick Cheney
AEI - Lynn Cheney

AIPEC JINSA - the Rabbi who handled the money in DOD and lost a couple of billion before leaving and who is associated with a company, maybe his own, that builds remote controls for aircraft.

Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 02:36 PM by seemslikeadream
I wonder where he got that money?

By the way it's 2.3 trillion but what's a couple billion between friends?

9. The guy who's compamy oversaw the investigation
It was an SPC subsidiary, TRIDATA CORPORATION, that oversaw the investigation after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 1993.

.........

WASHINGTON, July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- System Planning Corporation today announced that Charles L. Cragin has been named its senior vice president for national intelligence, security and response, with overall responsibility for SPC's homeland security business.

SPC's wholly owned subsidiary, TriData Corporation, is heavily involved in homeland security issues. TriData has supported more than 200 state and local agencies addressing fire, police, and emergency management and response issues.

4. I absolutely agree.
What remains to be seen is, will it be preceded by a terror attack ascribed to Iran?

It's an interesting couple of months coming up, and I don't mean that in a good way.

6. only the blogosphere can stop this
only the blogosphere can force coverage of stories, it seems. We have a sort of stovepipe going from the bloggers to MSNBC. Maybe we need to shake that tree somehow.

11. A possible attack on Iran, for sure. The Chimp said today he wasn't going
to start military action against Iran but was going to deal with them dipolmatically. Well..we know by now that he does the opposite of what he says...so the chills went down my spine when that was reported.

8. Yep, that pretty well sums it all up
And is close to what I have been thinking. NOW we know why the leak hit just before the convention -- no chance it'd get any traction.

Damn them all.

10. Minstrel Boy, while this may be true, didn't Marshall & Rozen plus Knight
Ritter reporter say that "contratry to what's being reported in WaPo and NYT's the investigation has been "ongoing for two years." (?)

So there's a discrepancy in the timing of the investigation. Plus, I thought there were phots and wiretaps. So they must know the identities of the Israeli's for them to have that info. They can't just destroy it, now that it's been reported.

Plus I read another article this morning about Spygate which seemed to say that there may be a linkage with this story and Chalabi so the story was far from over.

I hope it won't all be swept under the rug. It looks like there's so much spinning and counterspinning about this that maybe even those writing we can trust about this are themselves being spun.

This might get "swept under the rug" by Cable Media Whores and the average American may be accepting, but there are too many folks on the internet and bloggers in liberal circles who know more about this than the NYT's and W.Po, are claiming to know.

I have hopes it will live. But, agree the track record for the Bushies at killing investigations are A++ at this point. One day they will stumble though.

13. Anyone hear about the Iraqis killing Mossad agents and holding one?
I saw the story somewhere on DU and then it disappeared. If Israelis are operating inside Iraq and have been caught this is going to be huge.
