My father's memory has been insulted by the RNC.
My dad was a World War II vet who was wounded while parachuting into Germany toward the end of it. He survived of course and had a number of children afterwards but despite how things turned out for him, he still had troubling memories over his experiences over there.

And now the sacrifices that he's made are being chastised in acts that show the contempt by elitists of veterans everywhere in all wars. It is shameful to see such a thing. I'm not angered by what these people have done because ultimately they shame themselves terribly. Neither do I pity them for the hatred they love to swim in is the refuge they choose from life.

Dad, God rest your soul, your presence and memory will still shine on and perhaps will do so more brightly in these times.

1. You're saying because of all the goons wearing
the purple heart bandaids now. I said this morning that this is Insulting more than John Kerry ..it is the whole military establishment.

2. Exactly.
Sadly, John McCain and Bob Dole don't realize that they've been insulted too.

4. and my Uncle Bob
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 06:49 PM by grasswire
...who was wounded when the Japanese attacked and conquered Corregidor. He repeatedly went out under enemy bombardment to pull his wounded men to safety, and was wounded. His leg was sawed off by an Army surgeon under Japanese occupation. His medals included purple hearts and the Distinguished Service Cross. He was a prisoner of the Japanese for three years. A new rail facility at Fort Bliss was named after him this year, honoring his exceptional heroism.

Uncle Bob was a Republican all his life. I'm glad he didn't live to see this day, when his sacrifice would be dishonored by his party.

Shame on them. Shame.

6. THis insults my great-uncles, twin brothers
who served their country in WWII.

My one G-Uncle was a Japanese POW for 42 Months!

He'd be pissed at this vat-bashing by the Repugs.

7. I hear ya
My family's count:

Uncle David: a kamikaze attack during world war II
Uncle John: wounded at Boughainville
Cousin Ross: agent orange in Viet Nam (no award for his cancer)
Cousin Jay: wounded in Viet Nam

They have been sullied by this and I hope everyone in the world writes their local VA, American Legion and newspaper about this
outrage. I will.

9. My dad was in WWII also. He was stationed in New Guinea.
He died at home on Vets day 11/11/2000 of colon cancer. He was a proud vet and dem. The election was still undecided when he died. I will always remember sitting by his bed, and despite being so sick he was upset that Bush was stealing the election. He knew he wouldn't be here, but he still cared. He would be so disgusted with the whole 4 years of the Bush administration. And now the smearing of vets. I feel the same way. That they are dishonoring my dad too.
