I felt like he was better articulating and confirming muich of what I have been saying all along.

Major themes - coined in his terms:

Niggerazation of America - middle class reduced to marginal status, finding out what black folks have experienced for hundreds of years

Learning from a Blues People - how to keep the important values alive under opression

Constantine Christians - the paradox of what Christ taught and stood for being appropriated and used as the official mantle of the empire.

He talked a bout a need for honest talk and held no kid gloves on identifying Americas deference to Israel as a source of the hatred that fuels terrorism.

Did anyone else hear this?

2. I heard it -- Cornell West is always good
He appears on Democracy Now fairly often (compared to others).

Every time I hear him speak, I end up thinking about what he said for the next few hours. Food for thought that improves upon digestion.

3. He was on Democracy Now
the other night. I really liked what he had to say. He talked about the Constantin Christians as opposed to the Prophetic Christians. He and Amy Goodman also discussed his involvement in hip-hop music and his new book, which I can't remember the name of...I definitely want to read it.

5. I heard him on DN also
Definitely a cool guy. I've heard West talk a few times, and he's always interesting. I also was struck by his comments about "Constantine Christians" vs. "Prophetic Christians." I guess Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson would be the former, and people like Bartolomé de Las Casas and the Maryknoll missionaries would be the latter.

I am not a Christian myself, but I really admire these Christians who want to help the poor and make the world a better place.
