Why Bush (Republicans) hates Hollywood
It suddenly hit me after watching the Emmys!! The REAL reason is actually very simple!

Who else can "out" these flim-flam politicians like Bush and his cabal? The Hollywood professionals know it when they see it and call it like it is...an ACT!

Their fear is not the face recognition or star power...it's being outed as the false face LIARS! Compassionate conservatives my ass!!!

WE know it's an act! They (Republicans) know it's an act! Their real fear is actors (whose profession is to emote and who are recognized in the hearts and minds of Americans through that profession) can peel the onion!

Thoughts?

1. I have a different take on this
Hollywood is an industry that produces a complex product using a lot of very skilled well-paid labor. This (like high tech in general) does not fit the Republican plan for a low-skill low-wage plantation economy.

Hollywood is one of the few places where independent wealth can be found - wealth that is not beholden to corporate masters. Highly paid "stars" can afford to be outspoken without fear (so far) of losing their jobs, and have the public presence to be effective.

Hollywood is actually highly unionized. Skilled crafts can make a decent middle-class living. Again a threat to the plantation economy.

4. That's one take on it
You're absolutely correct that it's highly unionized...and a threat. I remember when we asked one of my college professors his take on unions (good or bad?) his response was, "some companies deserve a union." That's what happened with Hollywood.

I'm just not so sure that the majority of Hollywood liberals that are so hated and demonized by the Republicans consider the aspects of the industry's complexities. Simply put...the threat is calling spade a spade.

In some ways, even Hollywood hasn't yet figured out that the most effective message is to label the Republican politicians as highly scripted partisan actors with endless resources and a network of power. The mistake they (Hollywood) are making is to try and engage in a debate...they should just out them.

2. It gets a lot deeper into philosophical differences
Aside from the occasional bout of flag-waving, Hollywood has since its inception presented a message of personal and sexual liberation, of the power of the little guy against the establishment, of the tendency towards corruption in high places, and of the ability of the individual to make sense of the world and react appropriately.

None of that is appreciated by the elitists and crypto-fascists who would rather see the individual subordinated to authoritarian institutions, corporations glorified, traditional mores upheld, and sexual pleasure demonized.

Basically, they hate Hollywood for its freedom.

And, oh yes, there's more than a bit of anti-Semitism involved as well.

5. Yes, they do hate Hollywood for its freedom
and it scares the shit out of them that they can move the masses from their very persona. Star power...look at Ahnold.

I agree that the sexual liberation and power of the little guy et al goes against their agenda. That Americans might have freedom in this country versus fitting the round peg in the square hole is an alien concept to Republicans.

6. "Basically, they hate Hollywood for its freedom."
Who does Bush say hates America for the same reason?

All the above is right.

7. "Politics is show business for ugly people"
Is the old saying (though not so true anymore in this video-centric age). Ordinary Americans regard wealthy celebrities with a mixture of fascination and bitter envy. Republicans appeal to that.
