Our Soldiers in Iraq are Bartering for a Bed
Received this from a friend:

I spoke with my college roommate tonight. She lives in Chicago. Her son in law has a masters in languages and is in the military. He speaks the languages needed in Afghanistan and Iraq so of course, several months ago, he was sent to Iraq.

M was telling me how awful it is over there! She said her son-in-law, had to buy his own flak jacket, and he had to barter for a bed/mattress to sleep in!! Can you believe that?

She said 99% of the troops over there do not know why they are there.

And they still don't have electricity except intermittently, and the sewage is still in the streets.

The only people who support the war are our officers.

You want to talk about staying the course, they are the ones who are prepared to do that. Fighting is their life. She said this administration has lied to us and have misrepresented just about everything there is to misrepresent. The media is banned from most places.

She said people in this country are being taken, and she is amazed that everybody can't see the obvious after 3 years.

1. Sad
but the freepers say it's all about supporting our troops. Just imagine what these people are going to be like when they come back here.

I recall talking with a group of young Marines before the 9/11 attacks and I was telling them that Bush was going to send them to Iraq. Behind all of the we'll kill em talk was a look of fear and concern. I know they all probably ended up over there if some of them aren't dead or limbless. I bet they remember my words. I don't feel good about it either. I never in a million years expected this. Neither did they.

2. Feeling like Cassandra?
I have been absolutely haunted by my thoughts during the 2000 campaign that if Bush got in a lot of people were going to die BECAUSE he was president. I am not naive. I know people die who would ordinarily have lived because a particular president makes certain decisions or choices, but with Bush I believed that this sad reality was going to go off the scale. Sadly, he has succeeded beyond my expectations.

4. I felt that way when he was my governor
I was in England when the theft of the election occurred - Brits who found out I lived in Texas asked me about Bush and I told them IF HE BECOMES PRESIDENT HE WILL BE YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE. They found out the hard way, as we all have.
