Is anyone else as scared as I am right now?
Almost every day, we hear of new legislature being quietly presented and pushed through that trashes or threatens to trash everything we love about this country. I'm becoming so scared, I can't sleep at night. It's affecting my health.

Whenever I allow myself to think of Bush being re-selected, I picture absolute doom for the country, possibly realizing it almost immediately after the election. Am I just being a sensationalist? I see Bush sucking the middle class dry of all our assets, so the masses will find the military the only option to sustain ourselves at all. There's no plan to an exit in Iraq, big plans to our entry into Iran, and then a war with our strongest enemy, North Korea when our military will have become almost depleted. So, our children and grandchildren will be sent off to continual wars to die for the greedy top 1%, and no woman will be allowed to terminate her pregnancy or eventually even control future births in order to save our children from this horrendous future.

Whenever I ask myself, what is this administration capable of, their actions don't provide any reassuring answers? They've proven that they don't stop at just lying to us. As long as the press covers up their true intentions, we're screwed.

I take delight in Air America becoming so popular so quickly and getting the truth out. I've been ordering videos, Outfoxed, Uncovered, etc. and have been passing them around for viewing. I have ordered many more and plan to have several parties in October at my house for viewing. We are sending out emails with the information the media refuses to print. The two-faced project is outstanding and should definitely open some eyes in this country. I wish we could run through the streets screaming that our country is under attack, but we can't. I just hope all we are doing is enough. It has to be!

Kerry is our only hope right now for a future in America.

4. We shall overcome
They simply do NOT have the numbers of NAZI personnel they need to carry out their plans.
Plus,
they themselves are cowards.

Ain't no way on earth a bunch of Brooks Brothers Ditto-heads are going to be able to handle a crowd the size of the ones that show up anti-war demonstrations.

And THAT is just the fifth column.
Wait till you see the other four!!!!

6. Let your fear/anger motivate you
Fear and anger are justified but are NO excuse for despair, which results in inaction. We may well end up being the new Greatest Generation, the one that saved this country and the world from the final, great onslaught of fascism. Find the people in your community who feel as you do, and start organizing a resistance to whatever comes of the next election. Even if Kerry wins, that will only be the beginning of our efforts to start pushing our agenda. Remember the country is divided 50/50--and we have truth on our side. Dr. King said, "The universe bends toward justice." We are on the right side of history, and we will prevail if we persist.

7. Yes, we are all scared, but we are also becoming more powerful
as more and more of us share how we feel, and become determined to fight for the truth. My mom and I talk about this all the time, my hubby, too, how awful things can get, but there is one blessing, if you can call it that, in what is happening...people who have been deeply asleep for years are finally beginning to wake up and care again...slowly but surely.

And maybe Bush will steal another election but another four years of hell and war will only serve to wake up even more of us. Eventually the tipping point is reached, critical mass so to speak, and the pendelum swings back our way. I, like you, wish it could happen today, without more innocent people having to die and the planet suffering any more, but people are slow to wake up, slow to react. I see this with my own family and friends. Many are still asleep and only having their kids drafted into war or losing their job or healthcare will wake them up.

Stay strong, keep your faith, and do exactly what you are doing - reach out to others who are of like mind and heart. We are the warriors for truth and as long as we keep fighting, we will win.I have a three year old son and I will not let them destroy his future. I just simply will not.

8. well....
The plan to destroy the middle class is a myth.

Bush will rape the treasury while he can...but the middle class must be maintained in order for the repukes to remain in power

Look at Venezuala, the middle class is all but gone...the poor out number the rich...therefore the poor hold the power in a direct democracy, we just saw this in action

The only way for them to keep power with no middle class is to rig the elections

9. Bullshit: "The plan to destroy the middle class is a myth."
"The only way for them to keep power with no middle class is to rig the elections."

And control the media. Go read Orwell, then listen to our Black is White media.

Then go read about what they have done and are doing with the felons lists BBV, absentee ballots, etc.

If you think they can't or won't do it, you're inhapbiting a dream world.

24. No, I disagree. I don't think they need a middle class
(or at least don't think they do). They have control of the media, and they have the means to rig the vote. The Venezuelan proletariate (for lack of a better word) knew what was going on & refused to have the wool pulled over their eyes. I maintain that the American population is one of the most brainwashed, smug & deluded populations in history. They are contributing to their own destruction, and they will be destroyed.

10. I had this same conversation at the local Dem monthly Friday.
Hell yes I'm scared! I am female, liberal and labor associated. I hold a public office and a large number of local conservative GOP members dislike me. IF the asswipe wins another term I am afraid of what this nation will become, and I am afraid for my freedom along with that of all other women and men.

While I'm not ready to apply for political asylum just yet, I have got to admit that in the dark of night I wonder what my country has become. I worry that my seven year old daughter will grow up in a nation that hates and restricts her freedoms based on her gender and her mother's politics.

To date, my response has been to get out of bed and then go to my office and fight for the vision that I set forth when I was placed there. I have to wonder if there will come a day when I am more concerned for my kid and her safety than I am for the people I represent.

IF that day hits then we'll get out...

I take some solace in the realization that the political climate is a pendulum that swings back and forth between the opposites. Right now it is more right--but I think it has reached the apex of right and will begin to swing left again. Assuming electronic voting doesn't bring a new set of conditions into play, we will see the left trend begin to grow soon.

I just hope it happens before we have four more years of the asswipe.

Peace to you!

Laura

Just so you know, I dislike him so much that I refer to him as "The asswipe" rather than any other term...

Thankfully, not all of us are reaching for the Koolade mix and the poison just yet...

Kerry was not my choice in the primary, that is true. He IS, however, the choice of my party and I will work the full ticket. Anything else is sticking my head in an oven. Besides, better OUR asshole than the asswipe we have now.

14. Also, if this keeps up they will suspend Congress altogether.
Arnold is already trying to get the California Assembly to meet only part-time. This is the first step toward a dictatorship, suspend the power of the States after putting a few ideological puppets in place as governors to do your bidding and then tell the representatives of the people that they are no longer needed except to convene once a year or not even that often to put their stamp of approval on the fuerher's proclamations.

20. I used to be, but I realized something the other day
We here at DU like to pride ourselves for not succumbing to the terrorism fearmongering of the Bush administration. But we have our own fears and you've described them perfectly.

Guess what?

FEAR from whatever source serves them better than it serves us. It gives them power and disempowers us.

If you are living in fear (as opposed to "concern" and a strong willingness to be part of change for the better, as you are), you're wasting valuable personal energy, wallowing in negativity which is even bad for your health because our bodies DO put out toxic chemicals when our thinking and emotions are toxic, and as I said, empowering them. I also believe that at an energetic level they feed off the fear of the population (again, from whatever source).

Instead, think of it this way. Yes, things will be worse than if Kerry is elected. But, as Gandhi put it:

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants,a nd murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall, always.

And I think Gandhi knew what he was talking about.

Also think of this: it's just as easy to imagine victory over all this, peace and prosperity, than it is to engage in worry, esp. when the worry affects you physically and especially emotionally. I'm not saying become a pollyanna or go into denial -- quite the opposite. I'm saying just turn those thoughts (esp. when they start to affect you emotionally!!) to imagining positive outcomes. Don't limit your mind-pictures to a Kerry win, but rather go bigger than that -- a country and a world where everyone recognizes truth vs. lies and the lies can't work any longer, a country and world at peace where people of all kinds have what they need and live in harmony with one another. (Whatever pictures or thoughts work for you.)

I've gone through periods where I've had to turn off the TV for a while. I'm now choosing to watch much less news, rather than cutting back because I went into overwhelm and just couldn't take it any more. What I've noticed is not only that it serves me better in a lot of ways (and I can keep just as well informed here at DU), but that a BIG part of what affects me so negatively is the lies. Just being exposed to what we know are lies is corrosive to the spirit.

I applaud all you're doing -- very impressive. Just let go of the fear. ;-) Just know that even if Kerry doesn't win (and it's possible that Bush may succeed in stealing another eletion), "the way of truth and love has always won."

22. They are hell bent on 'ERODING' our country.
They've been at it for decades. The proof is all around us and thanks to some visionaries, we're just starting to wake up to it. We've been fed an entire patriotic line to keep us in line, while they operate on a secondary sub-government plan. We are told that our vote counts and our representatives will represent us in Washington. We've learned the absurdity of some of those claims.

We have every reason to worry. IF we are struggling to live, we will not have time, money, or energy to protest. They can legislate protests right out of our history.

They only factor is the pace of what they are doing. It's all more of an eroding action - we lose a little at a time and sometimes we don't even know we've lost it - is there anyone who can name all the treaties and agreements that this administration has broken? Can anyone list all the damaging envrironmental actions they have enacted?

They are accelarating the pace and it is more and more obvious that they don't care that their plans are being laid bare to those who can see it.

Another variable with them is funding. They need us need us to keep making money and paying taxes to fund their efforts. In the meantime, there is a theft at HUD, then another department, then billions at DOD while we have the corporations doing their thing.

But if we're scared, tired, uneducated about them, we'll let them do it to us.

But they will be working at it from a different angle while we're waking up - they will and they are trying to rewrite the constitution under the guise of and their interpretation of Christianity-Judeo law because they believe those under the spell of religion over nation will be their soldiers (no matter how phoney or sick the interpretation is).

Capitalism with some socialism is morphing into facism and nazism.

There is every reason to worry.

23. The Upcoming Election Is Just One Battle
and will be either a “Their Finest Hour” or “End of the Beginning” moment. Either way, the GOP Corporatocracy will ultimately lose the war.

Even if Boosh does pull out this election, the country is still going to be 50/50. If he does pull it out, it is because they were able to perpetuate the big lie of GOP economic/foreign policy for a little longer. Most of the people I know who support the GOP do so because of their supposed superiority in economic policy and national defense. With the economic and military disasters that are going to occur within the first couple of years into the next term, the Potemkin village built by the GOP will collapse, and so will the GOP majority in politics. I do not think Boosh will even last the full second term (ala Nixon).

The GOP has successfully delayed the day of reckoning until after the election by diverting any concerns people may have to 9/11 and the ‘war on terra’. Also, although many on this board see the coming storm, a critical mass of people buy into the ‘turning the corner’ mantra. Also, a vast majority of the country has no investment (relatives) in the branches of the military currently in harms way.

Let’s face it, considering the compliant (and possibly complicit media) and unprecedented use (for a democracy) of physiological warfare, the fact that they can only manage to get 50% of the 50% who vote underscores their weak position.

Regarding the draft, and expanding the ‘war on terra’, I think they are going to try. Problem is, we are going to run out of money before they can go very far. I feel we are going to have a fall similar to the (former) Soviet Union.

As for our democracy, I still have hope. Most people are still ‘asleep’ politically and are unaware of the massive structural problems the GOP has burdened the nation with. When the collapse comes, the masses will demand recourse at the ballot box. My fear at this stage is not the GOP, who will be destroyed, but what could replace the GOP if the Liberals/Progressives do not step up with marketable ideas and candidates.

Therefore, no matter the result, we must bugger on, and continue fighting for the day the GOP Corporatists, whose goal is to reduce the vast majority to low wage serfs, are thrown out of office.

So, the question becomes, how to ride out the next 10 years? For myself, I plan to live in a ‘low orbital state’. That is, living simply and saving everything I can. A move to a hard ‘blue’ area is a possibility to make things more bearable. Also, these are the areas where the recovery will first emerge.

I mention this b/c you said you were thinking of having viewing parties at your house and we are trying to get as any people as possible to see at least some of them before the election).
