Crikey, Texan or Not?
I posted something buried in a different thread regarding the allegation frequently made on DU that Bush is not a real Texan.

The responses I got were that he did not spend his formative years in Texas (which years are these generally considered?), never held a job in Texas, and that his accent is fake.

If you know of a documented website detailing W*'s earlier years please post. JH Hatfield's "Fortunate Son" places him squarely in Texas until Andover (no date provided). I can't get anything but recent crap on Google.

Help? (Documented help preferred.)

1. Here is one website
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0878291.html

Bush, George Walker
Bush, George Walker, 1946–, 43d president of the United States (2001–), b. New Haven, Conn. The eldest son of President George H. W. Bush and, like his father, attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and Yale, graduating in 1968. He subsequently earned a Harvard M.B.A. (1975) and worked in the oil and gas industry (1975–86). Bush helped manage his father's 1988 presidential campaign, then became managing partner (1989–94) of the Texas Rangers baseball team.

George W. Bush was born in New Haven Conn. He attended the same Mass. school as his father and the same college. They transplanted them selves in Texas (Midland) because of the oil industry here. I'm not sure when or how old W was when the move occurred. NONE of the Bush's are " TrueTexans". They are New Englanders that transplanted here and like to claim they are from Texas. I believe that W's accent is a bit contrived myself. However, Laura, who was actually born and raised in Texas has a thick accent and I suspect he picked up that phony BS of his from her. Is he a true Texan, I say NO. I'm certain part of the refusal of people to calim him as a Texan is that he is such an ass. I was born and raised in Texas, been here all my life so if you ask me "is George W. actually FROM Texas"? I will sharply say NO. I guess it all depends on how you personally determine and what criteria you use when stating you are "from" ____.

2. Thanks for the Link
OK, I understand your unwillingness to have any association with him as Texan. I wouldn't want to claim him as a native of my state either.

George Walker Bush was born on July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Conn., the first child of future president George H. W. Bush. In 1948, the family moved to Odessa, Tex., where the senior Bush went to work in the oil business. George W. grew up mainly in Midland, Tex., and Houston, and later attended two of his father's alma maters, Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and Yale.

Thanks to your help I was also able to Google this (though, I am apprehensive to use anything with freep in its URL!):

5. It exists, no record of his attendance on their website though
Your source is the Arizona Republic....I wouldn't be too surprised at either the Arbusto or SEC Investigation omissions! They are just an arm of the right-wing propaganda mill.

Apparently he moved to Texas when he was two, according to multiple sources.

The Kinkaid school looks like it still exists today http://www.kinkaid.org/

Their website doesn't acknowledge W*, which isn't too surprising as many schools are protective about their alumni records.

4. The Bush family
Well, in contrast to W, Jeb was actually born in Midland, Texas, yet he doesn't have an accent, at all. He attended prep school in New England, yet returned to the Univ. of Texas to get his college degree. If any of the children should have a Texas accent, it would be Jeb. But he doesn't. Yet, W supposedly does. No, I don't buy that. I've heard brief clips of W speaking to reporters during his father's presidential campaigns and there is no accent of any kind. I suspect it has been carefully cultivated since he decided to become Governor back in the 90's.
