Poll question: CELEBRITY APPRECIATION THREAD
I'm so sick of people like the idiots at PABAAH attacking clebrities who "have the nerve to" express a political opinion (of course they only object to the liberal ones.)

I appreciate celebs lending their money and fame to good causes. It's not like the corporations or politicians will do it!

So which celebs deserve the most props for their contributions?

Feel free to add submissions.

7. I left out Moore for one reason.
His fame came about BECAUSE of his political activism, not vice- versa.

Franken would qualify, I suppose...

8. I wish to nominate...
Sarandon and Robbins;
John Mellencamp (he risked unsettling what had to be thousands of his fans);
and Rob Reiner, I loved his early belief and work for Dean.

9. Went with Ruby and Ossie
They have a long, long term committment (I started to vote for Harry, who also qualifies on that ground...)

As we discussed before, a good chunk of the most beautiful actresses working in America today are solid liberals/Democrats. Which makes me very happy.

11. Nope, not me.
That's not my real name. It's in tribute to the late leader of Democratic Socialists of America, and one of my big personal ideological influences.

16. DC
Got to see them this past Friday in Pittsburgh. They were great! Natalie said at one point "people ask me if I'm sorry for what I said" the crowd of course screamed "NO!". She said "I was thinking of apologizing but then I realized they'd all call me a flip-flopper". I thought that was pretty cute. James was awesome too. It was like a superpower concert, if you will. Can't wait to see the finale when they all come together for the cause.

for their St. Louis show because they aren't able to advertise the show.

18. The funny thing is, she DID apologize at first.
Then, when she saw that people were embracing the chicks, buying their record, etc BECAUSE of what she'd said, she went back to defiance. I'm still a fan, but I was disappointed by that brief moment where she buckled. She did nothing to apologize for.

I loved her FUTK shirt.

19. Shameful
Some asshole journalist here reported on the concert and the conclusions he drew were entirely different from what we, as audience memebers saw. He even went so far as to comment on Natalie's weight, noting that she'd just given birth two months ago. I felt a letter to the editor was in order.

I know that the concert wasn't advertised around here either. We found out through the magic of the internet, lol. I was very disappointed that the country stations didn't advertise for it, but then again Clear Channel owns all the stations in the Pittsburgh area so it shouldn't come as that big of a surprise.

22. I voted Streisand
She's been doing it for so long and she has been incredibly active in a variety of causes. She was the first voice to say we should boycott Colorado after Amendment 2. She worked hard for dems as far back as 1968 and she has given money personally and through her foundation ever since then. Additionally, she has lent her voice to the cause in Bella Abzug's campaigns, McGovern's 1972 campaign, Bill Clinton's 1992 and 1996 campaigns, and Sen. Kerry's 2004 campaign.

On her site, she also has Article of Interest that any DUer would be proud to read.

I'd also give a hearty nod to Ben Affleck and Warren Beatty.
