The Bugman's busted! Damning audio TAPES -reveal abuse of power
FAA Conversations Obtained Under the FOIA
on the Texas Democrats
In response to its FOIA request, EPIC has received from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) transcripts (pdf) and audio recordings concerning the request by the office of US House of Representatives Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) to the FAA regarding the May 2003 search for the plane owned by Texas State Representative Pete Laney (Tail Number N711RD).

The May 12, 2003 audio recording of telephone conversations between the FAA's Washington Operations Center and various FAA field employees clearly indicate that the FAA employees were misled into believing that the request from DeLay's office was part of 1) a formal Congressional investigation; 2) a formal Congressional inquiry; and 3) part of a Congressional hearing process. In addition, the FAA was not made aware of the reason for DeLay's interest in the aircraft. No names were provided, merely the aircraft call sign: N711RD.

Some FAA employees can be heard expressing concern about the propriety of their actions. The audio recordings also point out that the request by DeLay's office resulted in a considerable expenditure of time and resources by FAA employees to provide information on the location and status of Rep. Laney's aircraft.

transcripts and mp3s of tapes at link. The House Ethics Committee (/sarcasm) should go down right along with him.

1. Did he think anyone would not look at this ?
How stupid is this , Mr DeLay ? i'm surprised he did not try to alert the fighters at Tinker AFB to intercept and shoot down Mr. Laney's plane.

Can anyone say impeachment ?

6. What if our trigger happy law enforcement decided
that the people in the plane didn't have a good enough story for them? Would they have shot this plane down? This is what I find appalling about the whole sordid episode. Delay was setting these people up to be physically in jeopardy.

7. nonsense
He didn't want them shot down. Remember he needed a quorum in the Texas Legislature to get the regerrymandering through. if the Democratic reps were killed then there is no quorum! Delay wanted them arrested, by either local state troopers or federal marshalls, but had to know where they were first. Remember, once the Dem reps appeared in Oklahoma, Texas asked Oklanhoma to send them back, and the Oklahoma government refused.

12. Thanks to this jerk
I have Lamar Smith instead of Lloyd Dogget for a Congressional Representative.

and this is why I voted early for a San Antonio security gurad for Congress instead.

But this may come all unraveled. No Bug Man would not have wanted the plane shot down Instead, he'd drag the captive state senators back to the capital in chains
as part and parcel of his triumph over representative democracy.

It would have been too easy to take them out and shoot them.

14. Can you say felonious abuse of power?
He's just below Giordano, whom I thought, until yesterday, had only solicited preteens for oral sex.
