So wolves are terrorists now, too?!
That wolf ad is really sickening - on the last day of Wolf Awareness Week, no less. There are some bad animals skulking around, all right, and they aren't in the woods. I can't do four more years of these scumbags ... or the brainless fools who can't see them.

1. haven't seen it. could you give us a quick description..
...
interestingly this comes as Bush's Fish and Wildlife Service is moving toward taking the gray wolf (sometimes called the eastern timberwolf) off the endangered species list in the whole norteastern third of the country, from missouri to minnesota to maine and south to the edge of their former range, in pennsylvania/maryland.

trouble is, while the wolves have recovered nicely in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, in most of their former range there are NONE.

this is another attempt to 'deregulate' and dump off responsibility (and funding) for managing the wolves on the states, who are likely to fuck it up.

4. You're in the woods, there's a pack of wolves
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 10:59 PM by neebob
waiting to get you if you're not protected. The message is the terrorists will get you if you don't vote for George Dubyabush. The evening newscast said it's spooky, but I don't think so. The woods are beautiful, and the wolves are obviously leery of the camera crew. It's just creepy that endangered animals are being likened to terrorists.

7. we used to hear them when I was a kid camping in No. Minn.
I don't think we ever saw them...at least I didn't. they were savvy enought to stay away from people. but a few of us Boy scouts would sit up late at night around the campfire, waiting to see if they'd call to each other. I recall one winter night that was dead calm and they started having one hell of a conversation, from hilltop to hilltop.
It was electrifying.

23. I'm glad you said that...here are a few facts
to support your point of view, and mine.

Today happens to be the last day of National Wolf Awareness Week. The purpose of having it is to debunk myths that they are a threat to us. Quite the contrary, no human being has ever been killed on US soil by a wolf.
The event is celebrated in some of the swing states; Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio. They hold this ad for 5 months to bring out as a last-ditch zinger and it is during a week we celebrate wolves!! Hasn't our environment suffered enough!

Either he is stupid(we know that) well, OK, let me rephrase that. Either he is totally insensitive(we know that, too) No, let me try again. He doesn't give a flying f... oh, I give up.

8. wolf awareness week
was this week. It breaks my heart that this pack of rats would use the image of wolves in this way. Humans should take care of their families as well as wolves do. They take care of their families even leaving them in the care of other group members when out hunting for food. They are loving and magnificent creatures. I'm not expressing myself very well tonight, but I hope this backfires on them like most of the monstrous attacks they launch.

I just heard John Edwards talking about the administration using a pack of wolves to scare people. Apparently he used it in a speech today.

10. Closest thing to a dog and they DO NOT attack humans.
I wouldn't go and try to pet one, but they'll leave you alone unless you're trying to take one of the pups.

13. I happen to think this was the dumbest ad the pubs ever put together.
I watched it several times, and I really still fail to see the message. I guess if you have a really good imagination, you can come up with a meaning but most viewers don't!

I posted the question earlier asking what was the meaning of this ad. The responses were all over the board, but the botton line was most people had no idea! They knew that because "shrub approved the ad" that it must be against Kerry, but no one got the message!

Good going Pubs! Keep running that dumb thing. Few people are going to understand it anyway!

16. It says at the beginning
that John Kerry and the liberals in Congress tried to cut the budget and weaken America, and there are ... I don't know, creatures who prey on weakness or something like that. I was too busy being horrified at the imagery to pay much attention to what it said the first couple of times I saw it, and I was only listening when Countdown played it this hour.

17. You may be right. I didn't pay enough attention to hear the words
and the visual is just stupid with just a passing interest.

I still say, it's a stupid ad. Most voters don't pay attention to every word, or any words in a campaign ad. Sonetines a visual will catch their eye,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and they'll pay a little attention in response to their "What the heck was that?" attitude. I just don't think it makes the point they were after!

19. You could be right as well
Neither of us got the message the first time, and I think a lot of people - especially the thinking-averse types who like Bush - will get hung up on the imagery and not hear the words.

Speaking of stupid ads, the news shows are comparing the wolf ad to a bear ad that Reagan ran. This big, obviously old bear is lumbering around, and the narration says the bear might be nice or it might be vicious and attack us. We just don't know. Some people can't see the bear.

Now that's stupid! Why would you not see the bear? Does it have a cloaking device or what?

20. I watched that bear ad again tonight.
I will give it at least ONE attaboy. The bear at that time was directly related to "the soviet union" which was the big threat at the time.

I still don't see the connection with wolves!

21. You have to think wolves are bad
Wolves at the door, wolves in sheep's clothing, the Big Bad Wolf. Maybe you're Little Red Riding Hood or one of the Three Little Pigs. Does that help?

22. No. It doesn't help. I think if they wanted this kind of ad to have
and impact, they should have had pics of Atta, and Osama, and other arabs hiding behind the trees, and sneaking through the woods with their rifles, and maybe a few planes flying overhead!

Sorry, wolves just don't scare me.

26. Too late
Calico cats are evil and harbingers of the devil. So says Asshcroft.

I imagine he's got a thing for black cats, too, but being that 99% of calicos are female and the 1% that are male are sterile...
