5. No fashion critic.... but I have ran teams who think that Carhart is up
there with the bible as far as an outward statement as to what a man is or isn't.

this is a SE thing as far as I know, but it has the potential to al;ienate a lot of people.

We have to post the bad with the good here.

He has been wearing that jacket outside for over a year (since before the primaries last year). It is a little late to be criticizing his choice of outerwear.

10. In redneck circles, this is a MAJOR faux pas....
(lol)

Seriously, to many working men and women in the construction industry, this has the potential of pissing them off. It's like wearing Marine Bleues with a Minnie Pearl hat.

Kerry is class all the way.
At first I was not use to his yellow jacket but now I like it.

Why don't we talk about Bush wearing over sized jackets, that must belong to someone else for the last few weeks?

What is he hiding under those jackets? Wires? OBL?

16. Is there something 'elite' about the jacket that
I've worn for years and still only costs about $60? What should he be wearing, pray tell? He's smart enough not to pose in a Stetson...that would be fodder for the phony rancher.

In addition to all the Kerry handicaps such as integrity, intelligence, the ability to articulate ideas, etc., he also has the curse of looking really, really good in clothes. Anything he wears just looks great on him. Poor man.

22. If they're the same pants he's worn at both rallies in Ohio ...
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 03:22 PM by nownow
they're not actually 'suit pants' -- they're Dockers. Business casual, in other words. I don't know what he wore in Colorado. In Springfield, he wore khaki-colored Dockers. Chinos/khakis with a barn coat aren't all that bad -- I see it plenty around here in the fall, guys who are middle-management dress like this often enough.

23. Sorry, BP but ...
who really gives a drizzly shit?

The avant garde and chic among the construction and ag industries? Personally, I hardly notice clothes and have a hard time believing that anyone would give a shit about something like what sort of jacket Kerry wears with suit pants. Would someone who would give a shit bother to vote anyway?

...I've ever seen one of those jackets worn is in Montana. I don't much care for it because of its jarring color, but I figured there's a reason why he's wearing it. Probably to dispel a New England preppy image.

26. Carhartt -- an old, fine company
Did a bit of research and found that the company was founded in Michigan in the 1800s to make clothing for railroad workers. The history is here:

39. looks good ?
Heck, when you got as much money as he does you darn well better look good.......he doesn't shop at K-Mart after all.

Bush looks fine in his $5000 suits as does his opponent in his....common men both ,huh ?!? But we could make fun of the lifts in Bush's shoes and "they " can jibe about Kerry's iron clad hair.

I prefer to talk about foreign and domestic policy and why Kerry blocked that wind power project next to his estate in Mass. ....cant block the view of the elite now can we? (not a Bush supporter in case you are wondering)......just asking for a candidate I can actually relate to.....

46. Relax
Kerry's handlers know exactly what they're doing. I wear the same jacket myself. Carhartt is the outdoor clothing of choice for blue collar workers of all kinds. They started by making coveralls for railroad workers over a century ago. Kerry knows where the Democratic base is.

The Carhartt company has also traditionally been pro-union and all their U.S. plants are unionized through the UFCW, but check labels when you buy because some of their stuff has been outsourced the last couple of years. We can protect good jobs and make sure Carhartt stays a union company by looking for the Made In USA/UFCW Union label and only buying those.

49. Carhart
In Nebraska Carhart is the mainstay. It is the choice of every farmer/cow/horse person. That 60 dollar jacket will last for years. It is so popular the style has been copied by upscale clothing retailers in recent years and they have rolled out the "Barn Jacket" to a new crowd of shoppers.
