Did you get your heating oil bill today? My Mom did.
It was $500. She is paying $2 for a unit of fuel that cost ninety cents last winter.

What about the rest of you?

1. I'm stunned. What state and how cold will it get, oh say,

5. NYC. And it rarely goes below zero .
A bad winter can have days with below zero wind chill, but the usual is anywhere from ten to forty or even fifty degrees.

...although I paid $200 a cord. Still, it's a bargain, especialy compared to heating oil. I turn my furnace (natural gas) on for about 15 minutes in the AM to take the chill off before I shower, but otherwise use the stove. Last month's PG&E bill (electricity and gas): $36.00.

13. One cord of wood for the whole winter?
If you can get by on one courd, you must have a well-insulated one-room shack in Florida? Right?

6. I'm DREADING the propane deliveries this year
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 07:34 PM by bush_has_to_go
We're on the budget plan and have around $900 in (and add another $85 a month) but that goes VERY quick if it's cold and if the propane company starts lining their pockets. I think the worst I've seen was $2.39 a gallon last March (when prices should be going DOWN), but I expect it's probably closer to $3.00 a gallon by now (can you say RAPE?) and even that might be low.

What's even worse is that you really CAN'T conserve...they jack the price per gallon up big time if annual useage is less than a certain amount (which I imagine it usually is by their standards)

8. People Are Going To Die This Winter
That is what a neighbor of mine said this morning while we were chatting. He said the price of oil is going to cause some people, probably old people, out here in the country were we live to freeze to death this winter. I have absolutly no doubt that he was correct.

I drive a diesel truck (I have to tow heavy loads often) and buy my fuel at the same fuel suplier who services our home. The last time I went inside and looked at the board the price of #2 heating oil was up to $1.87 a gallon if you were buying over 200 gallons, I don't recall how much it dropped at 400 gallons. Last year it would have been $0.75. Indeed, people are going to freeze to death in north eastern West Virginia, I would bet on it. During a bad winter it can get very cold here. I have seen 20 below on more than one night every one of the 27 years I have lived in this state. I'm not talking about wind chill here, I'm talking about dead air cold.

Who do we blame this one on?

9. But, but Bush put "more of your money in your pocket"
So he could bankrupt Social Security and you can put that money back into heating oil!

12. Ouch. Here in MA we will be paying 1,800
We got fuel oil locked in at 1.69 and with the "budget plan" we will pay 1,800 this winter for heat and hot water. Last year we locked in at 1.19. Maybe we will get lucky and it will be a more mild winter.

18. "bush invades iraq & all I get is this inflated heating bill" ; CONTROL
of the oil, not to take it to market, but to keep it FROM the market.

That is the point of the PNAC middle east conquest.
