WEST PALM BEACH – An 18-year-old Marine recruit remained in jail on Wednesday, charged with threatening to stab his girlfriend over her choice for president, news partner NewsChannel 5 reported in its noon broadcast.

The enlistee, Steven Scott Soper, of Lake Worth, became enraged Tuesday night when his 18-year-old girlfriend said she was leaving him -- and voting for John Kerry for president.

the most dangerous time in an abusive relationship is when the abused partner leaves, sadly enough, many victims know this, another factor keeping them in such a relationship. It would be hard to say if he would have been so threatening if she just said she's voting fo Kerry, but not breaking up with him, but I wouldn't be surprised. and the majority of abusers are rethugs, hence the "thug".

something i have been trying to impress on a friend of mine who thinks she know what her soon-to-be ex will and will not do.
i told to have her big, bad motorcycle club friends escort him out when the time comes, and have them wait while the locksmith changes the locks. and that she should not be present at all when it happens.

Quite an extreme by-product of the cognitive dissonance required to be a Bush supporter nowadays.

Families have been divided along political lines, friendships tested, strangers jeered at, biased products widely boycotted, relationships dissolved, employees fired, all as a result of this sham of a presidency and how some will strive at great lengths to defend it.

We are seeing the seeds of a great unraveling being planted. Never in my lifetime have I seen people judged so decisively based on their political views. Liberals tend to believe that if one is a Bush supporter, one must either be delusional or fatally self-interested; conservatives believe that liberals are so partisan that they are "weakening" our country by choosing "wishy-washy" democrat during a time of war.

I have a feeling that things will get much worse before they can become better.
