Just heard on LINK TV vis-a-vi a soldier returned from Iraq that he has it on good word that the death count should be much higher. But atm, it's being kept way under because if a soldier is facing imminent death (72 hour window) they are retired which moves the death count to a different window.

A Soldiers Diagnosis /Prognosis of Death Within 72 Hours Requires Expeditious Casualty Processing. An Active Duty Soldier in This Situation Must Be Given the Best Benefit Counseling the Army Can Offer. Death While in a Retired Status May Result in Greater Benefits to a Soldier’s Eligible Survivors Than When Death Occurs on Active Duty. In Order to Accomplish the Retirement Process, Imminent Death Procedures Must Be Carried Out Between the Medical Treatment Facility, Personnel Office and the Primary Next-of-kin.

I know many have asked about the death count and it seems way too low to many. I don't know of this has been posted before, but thought it might provide food for thought for those who like to search things out.
The gal on the program speaking on behalf of the military stated that the military is no longer using this as of about a year ago.
