it's just that that whole meme would never ever disappear, and Kerry wouldn't have had a helping hand in any other branch either. It's incredible (in the strict literal sense of the word) how sheeple will remember things like "flip-flops" and obscure rivers in Vietnam, but ignore such things as "Osama = #1 priority. Must kill Osama." to "he's not that important ... Saddam did it!!!" I've met such people ... having lived in Georgia, and I am related some of these folks. I didn't know what kind of widespread bigotry and ignorance existed in this country until I saw a roadside sign in rural northern GA right after Abu Ghraib broke saying "screw the Iraqi jailbirds." I had inklings of it when I was in a Martin Luther King march in Atlanta years ago, and we were opposed on the street by the KKK and fundies screaming about how we're going to hell for supporting MLK.
