Dear Senator Durbin.
It's certainly been a bad week for America and especially for the democratic party. The re-election of president Bush and the Republican gains of the United States Senate will certainly prove disasterous to the progress of our nation. Senator, I know that you are wondering why somebody from New Orleans, Louisiana would be writing to you to tell you all of this. I am writing because I am very concerned with the leadership of the democratic party. As we all know, Senator Daschle unfortunately lost his seat on Tuesday Night and thus, the democrats must choose a new senate leader. Rumor has it, that Minority Whip Harry Reid has secured the votes to take this job. While I know that Harry Reid is an honest and decent man who does work hard for his constituents and his party, I, as well as many others, feel that his stance on a woman's right to choose is completely unacceptable for a leader of the democratic party. Along with this, many also feel that Senator Reid is not a strong enough voice to stand up to President Bush on many other issues. Senator, I write to you because I want to encourage you to seek the job of Senate Democratic Leader. For the past four years, you have shown great courage in standing up for your convictions and speaking out against the horrible policies of this administration. You have spoken out when others kept silent and got in line with the administration. Along with the late Senator Wellstone, you are the most powerful voice that progressives have had on capitol hill for many years. Senator, the democratic party needs a strong leader, who will not be afraid to speak out against the Bush administration, no matter what. With your strong leadership, the democratic message would be succesfully carried out to millions of Americans who are disappointed with this administration's policies. Senator, I would like to put this as simply as possible: Your country and your party need you and we need you very badly. I seriously hope that you will consider seeking the position of Senate Democratic Leader for the 109th congress.
Sincerely
Alex
Come to think of it I should've spaced it out a little bit but the form on that page is so tiny that it was hard to figure out where to line break.
