Time for a little history lesson. Do any of you people who voted for Bush know what the Soviet Union was? It was the arch-enemy of the United States. In the late 70's, America was sending aid to Afghanistan. This made the Soviet Union angry, and it attacked Afghanistan, hoping to incorporate it into the Union. In response, one of Carter's assistants (also one of Reagan's assistants and a Neo-Con) said "Let's send Islamic 'freedom fighters' to fight the Soviets". Thus the Afghan Mujahideen were born. Through a long drawn out war that made the Soviet Economy go bad, the Soviet Union fell in the early 90's.
We are fighting the same 'freedom fighters' that we helped fight the Soviet Union.
With Bush stealing four more years, we have to fight the enemy that does not die for four more years.
Although we must not appease Al Qaeda, we must find other ways to improve life in the Middle East (And although I would like to see Democracies in the Middle East, forcing it on them is not a good idea), because continuing direct conflict may cause the fall of the United States.
