ask them if they've read any of the manifestos. if they have, they'd realize that he wasn't some evil guy. a lot of what he said, at least in terms of class (especially considering the time frame) was dead on.

but i dont suppose that matters.

13. "Whatcha reading for?"
A dimwitted Waffle House waitress came up to my table, saw me reading a book, and asked, "Whatcha reading for?" Not "what are you reading?" but "what are you reading for?" "Well, I read for a lot of reasons, but one of them is so I don't end up a fucking waffle waitress."

3. When they call me a commie, they're usually right
Well, technically I never joine the Party, I was too young...I was in Comsomol (for younger generation), my father was a due paying member of the great CPSU.

4. Unfortunately most DUers are much like the people you speak
They call themselves moderates, but they are social liberals, not economic liberals.

5. Side Question
What's the difference between being a social liberal and an economic liberal? Are they naturally exclusive? I'm just curious about what you mean.

6. The sort of person that would call me a commie isn't likely to benefit

Anyway, I agree to some extent. One thing that alienated me from socialist thought was the exphasis on class, as opposed to worldview and beliefs. My friends and I have never felt divided against one another in terms of socioeconomic levels even though we are fairly disparate. Although I am aware of it, I never think of being rich as part of my identity, nor does one of my closest friends think of being poor as hers. Money is just a matter of personal circumstances, often quite random. It's just stuff, and the potential to have more stuff. It doesn't necessarily dictate who you are.

That having been said, before I get flamed, I would note that I strongly support progressive income tax and redistribution to level the playing field and appropriately reinforce the public sector. I know as well as anyone that wealth absolutely does not signify one's value to society or their work ethic.

I'm moving a poor family into their McMansion and giving each one of them 12 square meters of living space in their house.

A la Doctor Zhivago.

I also tell them that their god sucks dead weasel dicks.

14. My take on communism is that it really isn't too different from pure
Christianity. And the same problem assures both philosophies will fail in application: Human beings

Fundies usually stop trying to talk to me after I toss that at them.
