WHY are we using a * (asterisk) instead of just using Bush - Please read
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 10:33 AM by Fear
(Making DemocraticUnderground more Search Engine Friendly / accessible for more people.)

For some time now I've been thinking about all of the nick names we use for George W. Bush, the asterisk (*), Shrub etc. etc. And I have used / use them too. I understand we don't want to use his name.....BUT....

Let's think about it, we want MORE people to read the information we find / post etc. etc., we want more people to view the connections / criminal activities.

The Search Engines (such as google) will hit the site democratic underground, crawl / index the site or at least parts of it - and it sees for example "weapons of mass destruction" and "Shrub" or an "Asterisk". - The search engines will put the keywords "Weapons of Mass Destruction" and "Shrub" in the database.

People searching on the web for "weapons of mass destruction" and "Bush" will not see Democratic Underground ranking very high (cause we used an Asterisk or Shrub or something like that).....and you won't see any 'new' people getting the information they REALLY need.

So here's my thoughts on this, perhaps we should start using *'s Name again.....and link his name (and other people's names) to all the information we find.

Please continue spreading the word for people using the * or other.

GEORGE W. BUSH, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, IRAQ (hehehe, some keywords ;))

32. Yes. I do the same - ** is without honor, so he has no name...
On DU, it's *, or maybe ** now, and "that asshole" seems to convey the necessary info around my house.

26. But he won the popular vote this time
Cheating or not, it'll go down in the records as him having won the popular vote. Therefore, in the books, it'll be Bush* for the first term and Bush for the second.

5. The indexing doesn't work that way
It's based on keywords in the page, and links to the page. I agree with you, but for a different reason.

when I talk to conservative friends and use "Shrub", etc., the conversation is over. Not so with "Bush" or "the President".

Hitler didn't have any cutesie nicknames, did he?

16. Keywords in the page.......indeed........so, keywords such as Bush etc.
The meta tags are not the major contributor anymore for search engines, they have gotten smarter and extract the information from the pages itself.....and yup @ linking.

12. Good point BUT
plenty of people here use the name. I, personally, will not waste my precious fingers typing it out, unless it is like this:
Bu(ll)sh(it). The only acceptable form. And if I am forced to speak it, well those of you who have read "Fierce Invalids", think Dulles. Ptui.

17. Guess correct using would be: President *. Like when they talk
about Roger Maris's homerun record and always put asterik after it because the year he beat Ruth, the baseball season was longer, so his HR record is quallified. In other words, just to have a stand alone * is incorrect, has to be following something.

However, when approaching the Thief in Chief in person, the wise form of address is "Your Imperial Worshipfulness" accompanied by much groveling.

which is to string together all the relevant epithets:

Bush election-stealing, coke-monkey, miserable failure, worst president ever, rapture death cult member, moron, Jesus freak, war criminal, ...

Please feel free to add and share for google's sake.
