Randi just said that the Ohio SOS wants over $1 million
for the recount.

He previously quoted a price of $110 thousand.

4. kerry supposely has money earmarked for recounts
it's time to harrass him until he gives up some for this, because that money was gotten from supporters for this reason.

16. Yes I think they do
Because it is not close enough to be in the margin of error that would call for the state to run the recount, if we want it we have to pay for it.

We should add a provision to the contract that if there is fraud by state officials the money will be refunded. And then let the Cobb & Badnarik campaigns keep it.

12. and it's likely the GOP has an eagle eye out waiting for that move....
It seems to me, though, that they could come up with the money for a recount if the Green Party asked them PUBLICLY to contribute to the recount effort. In fact, the Green Party would be smart to ask the GOP for a contribution, as well. Just so everyone is on record as being FOR just counting efforts.

21. They just said on Crossfire that he had over 25 million
left in his campaign fund - I'll be damned if I'm going to donate for something that should have been done right the first time. This is bullshit.

7. If the recounts are being done by hand ,
How can it possibly cost over $1 million ? Why can't bi-partisan volunteers do the recount, so all that needs to be spent is money on heating, lighting and meals for the volunteers?

19. If the results are SIGNIFICANTLY different they shouldn't have to pay!
That's the State's screw-up for using cheeseball machines tabulating over an easily hackable network!

from all this, I suspect Mr. Blackwell will have a nice cushy federal job waiting for him. Well done, good and faithful servant.

13. The way the quote from his office reads ....
(It's on another thread from today somewhere) it sounds like the $10 per precinct charge is the charge, but it will cost the state closer to a million. Will they/can they charge it to Cobb and Badnarik? We don't know.

20. I thought they requested that he not be involved at all?
I thought that one of the requirements of the recount was that Blackwell be recused as they didn't trust him around the votes.
This still shouldn't stop the recount, though will it?
It didn't stop New Hampshire.

23. It's for high priced attorneys.
Yes, some attorneys have agreed to pro bono work, but they want some high priced constitutional law specialists. It has to do with suing over the long lines & other tactics to keep people from voting.

24. I thought 110k seemed cheap
for a statewide recount.

Don't get me wrong. It should be funded by the state (i.e. free), but I was wondering how the actual cost would only be $110k for such a massive effort involving so many people.
