Suggestion: Wear a DU identifier to all Democratic events
Howdy yall. I'm still here in Oklahoma, far removed from my beloved Texas, and so I'm not posting so much to DU over the holidays. But I just had a kicker of a brainstorm and had to come on down to the hotel's computer and post this, lest I forget it between now and the time I return to civilization.

The people of DU should encourage each other to show up and participate at Real World (c) events as the Democrats gear up for another four years of oppositioning (and let's see if we can get it right this time!). Something that I think would be helpful to building a strong connection between the cyber-aware community and Real World activism would be if we could work toward bumping into one another at local activist events.

So here's my suggestion. Let's come up with some emblem, icon, or casual accessory that DUers could wear to events and use to spot one another. It ought to be something most of us can agree on--so Eminem black hoodies are right out. In 1984 the Rainbow Coalition folks wore these orange bandanas on their arms to identify the floor leaders at the state conventions. That was both subtle, visual, iconic, nonthreatening, and recognizeable in a crowd.

So maybe could we come up with a black bandana--something that looks like this:

That's just an initial thought. Is there something else that would work? Gimme caps? Very large DU lapel pins? Big fuzzy pink bunny slippers? I wanna see more living breathing DUers making our presense known in the universe. I wanna make a splash.

1. I resent the implication that we did anything wrong this time.
But yes, we need DU buttons.

NGU.

2. I Tried That Once.
My fellow Democrats laughed at me until I took off the button.

They look at Auntie Pinko with disgust. They've said we have gone too far to the Left and need to get back to Middle America.

There was a lot more said, all of it unpleasant. The nicest being "When was I leaving?" They are so tired of Democrats saying they are moving to another country and then reneging. This leaves so much fodder to conservatives who laugh at them. They say it shows how much us Democrats can't be trusted. Another Flip-Flop; I/We changed our minds about leaving.

And I don't know how many times I got E-Mailed the "New Version of the Democratic Seal". I.e, a crying baby. I got a lot of blame for that too.

Want me to continue?

3. Really?
And all your Democratic friends...what are they saying about the stolen election? I have no intention of leaving and I am getting the message out to Democrats who are pretty down, but don't know about sites like the DU. In fact I met 3 this weekend in NH that were very interested in signing on.

Maybe you should have another converstion with these so-called Democrats....perhaps living under a criminal fascist one-Party Republican government might motivate them to get more informed and move to the left.

4. Really.
They watched the counting like a miser counting his/her loot. They were satisfied there was nothing wrong THIS time. I still have a Repub Rep, but everybody was satisfied The Will of the People was carried out.

By the way, I pocketed $200 as a Vote watcher from the County to make sure everything was on the Up and Up. With the TV cameras everywhere, believe me when I say the election was Fair.

Of course I can’t say what things were elsewhere in the country, but at least I know my home State was clean.

How I got the job? I answered a classified ad I saw in the paper. It was that simple.

7. You must have wandered into a Freeper convention by mistake
Your statements are the exact statements made by freepers.

Do we want you to continue posting freeper crap "said" by your so called democratic friends? No.

5. I resent the truth that the Democrats failed to oppose Bush's war enough
There's a pointless war going on that, frankly, could have been prevented. I stand by my statement.

We didn't do enough to oppose Bush.

6. how about wearing all the time...
a button "I voted Dem" or "I voted Kerry"?

Let's see just what the majority voted for.

8. Better yet.
How about the Democratic Party do a massive canvassing of critical/suspect voting precincts in this country. Get people to sign affidavits on who they voted for and why. Open it up to both Kerry and Bush supporters. (I suspect Bush supporters will be less than enthusiastic to help the effort, but perhaps those Republicans who actually voted for Kerry will want their vote recorded.)

It will do 3 things-

(1) Prove or disprove voter fraud.
(2) Show the rank-and-file that the Party is fighting for our vote.
(3) Provide insights into why the people voted as they did.

12. YES!
There are many DUers who do all their work "from home".. Getting in the door of the local offices can't do anything but good.

13. I already do
I wear my DU tee shirt everywhere that may get noticed, I especially like wearing it to mal-wart, I've gotten several compliments on it there.
I wear it to political rallies, I wore it when we went to see Michael Moore, I'm even wearing it for my gallery picture.

15. I was going to suggest the t-shirt.
I also wear mine wherever I can. I have a long-sleeved one and a short-sleeved one, so I have apparel for all weather. All I need now is a sweatshirt!
