For kids, future dimNearly 20 years ago a band named Timbuk 3 hit it big with "The Future's So Bright I've Got To Wear Shades." Today, the future for our kids is so dark you may want to consider night-vision goggles for Christmas.
First, our government has mismanaged our federal budget. America now holds record debt and deficits. Over 25 percent of our annual budget goes to interest payments on our debt. Our children will be picking up the tab on this debt in the form of taxes.
The government also wants to lower the deficit by cutting education and job-training programs. This means our kids will lack the skills needed to succeed in life. Expect outsourcing to increase since our kids won't have the skills needed to perform the jobs.
Finally, health care cuts have put our kids' lives at risk. Infant mortality rates are alarmingly high. Pre-natal and neo-natal healthcare are non-existent for almost 50 million Americans.
What can be done?
The government has to stop spending like there's no tomorrow. It needs to fund education and healthcare programs that directly effect our children's lives.
Finally, we need to pray that our leaders see the light regarding our children's futures. If they don't, they condemn our kids to a future of darkness and failure rather than a future of light and hope.
I tried to frame it in a way that reflects the danger that the gov't has put our kids in. Lack of healthcare, education and job training cuts, outsourcing, etc. I also tried to work in a reference to Bush's invasion with the use of "night vision goggles."
Whadya think?
