Daily U.S. Casualties 9/5/2003

As of Thursday, 287 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.

The British government has reported 49 deaths. Denmark's military has reported one death.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 149 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest Defense Department figures.

There were no deaths reported by the U.S. military on Thursday.

The latest identifications reported by the U.S. military:


Army Staff Sgt. Cameron B. Sarno, 43; Waipahu, Hawaii; died Monday in Kuwait City when he was hit by a truck while changing his vehicle's tire; assigned to the 257th Transportation Company, U.S. Army Reserve, Las Vegas.
