"If our troops weren't in Iraq, I'd be wearing a burqa now!"
Did anybody see the segment on ABC World news tonite where the two mothers who lost sons over in Iraq were interviewed?

One mother has become an outspoken critic of the war and this administration and has been speaking out.

The other mother (who happens to be a fundie Christian), and God forgive me for I don't mean to critize the poor woman or diminish her loss, however, during the interview she said that if "If our troops weren't in Iraq, I'd be wearing a burqa now!"

I almost fell off the sofa. Never has it be as clear to me until the moment she said that, how irrational the majority of Americans are. This is the mentality that put Bush back into the WH. I do believe now that we are sunk.

1. I couldn't believe that came out of her mouth
I have it on now. Amazing--I am still stunned by what some people believe.

6. Scary, isn't it? I work with some otherwise very intelligent people
who are totally convinced that "if we're not fighting them over there, then we'd all be fighting them over here". Makes no sense to me, but there you go.

3. Yeah, the notion that ANY Islamic country is currently capable or even...
...WANTS to take control of the US is the most silly thing I every heard and I have heard it more than once in the last 3 years.

Americans are just fucking stupid when they buy into that kinda thing and sorry to say it, but it's idiocy like that causes the words "sheeple" to be so appropriate.

4. If that's her attitude then I have no sympathy for her
She wants this war, which means more mothers will lose sons, then as far as I'm concerned, she got what she deserved.

Yeah, I'm not being nice anymore now that the election is over.

5. Remember that 'clever' Windows desktop in Arabic that went around?
"This is how our computers would look if Saddam were in power" blah blah blah. It is unreal how absolutely jingoistic and uninformed the electorate is.

7. She has to delude herself that her son is not dead for nothing
A lot of that same talk was going on from some of the mothers of the dead during Vietnam years.

Hard to throw you child away for a lie. So you make up another lie to make the sacrifice seem "worth it".

30. that was my first though too
how could she handle her anger otherwise? I think people accept only what they can in situations as overwhelming as this and as time goes on it will sink in as she can handle it. I would be curious to watch her over the years and see if any substance abuse problems manifest themselves or outbursts of anger.

8. many people really buy into the "They're fighting for our freedom"
which is such bullshit. My nephew in Iraq said that notion strikes he and many of his fellow soldiers as asinine.

People that are so stupid, or willfully uninformed, look to folks like Cheney et al and just figger, well, "they know best".......though it's hard to understand when * can't even put a coherent sentence together half the time...

I am sickened that anyone could believe this! Where do people get this idea? They must think that just because our (GOP) leaders want to take over the whole world, everyone else does too.

let the pastor fill 'em up with bullshit; especially hate-based theology bullshit.

What a stupid, misinformed woman. And if she isn't just misinformed, and came up with that bullshit on her own, then she's just a hate-filled unchristian cu*t.

25. Personally, I don't judge her. She had her son murdered in a stupid
war and she's trying to live with it. Come back in a year and ask her. I would give her time. She's hurt and there can be nothing worse than knowing your kid got murdered. Its a hopeless bleakness that informs her. Give her time.

28. I doubt it. I bet she said the same thing before the son went off to war,
and before he died.

it's a rather common mantra amongst the "thinking is evil" and "anything not white and American and Christian is evil" brand of Christianity.

The 1st Taliban Airborne Corps will lead the assault ! The first wave will follow a WMD attack with Saddam's lost weapons. The Al Qaeda Armored Corps will follow up and exploit. During consolidation, burqas and Korans will be distributed to all American women.
