Trip to Auschwitz would be "distraction", says Buckingham Palace
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Prince Harry on Thursday ruled out visiting Auschwitz as atonement for wearing a Nazi uniform at a party just two weeks before the 60th anniversary of the death camp's liberation.

...........

"It would be a distraction and a detraction from the importance of the occasion because it would become a different story in media terms," the official told Reuters.

"He recognizes he made a very bad mistake and he apologizes for that. There are no plans for him to say anything more."

1. No, he should go privately, another time
I actually agree with this. It would be a distraction and we'd have to see more copies of that terrible picture.

2. I think it's enough that he apologized
He's just a kid, for heaven's sake. People seem to be assuming that he's been trained somehow to be more sensitive than any other kid.

5. Most kids don't wear swatstikas. And it wasn't much
of an apology. Just a brief press release.

9. I do think he should make a public apology
that being said, he is a stupid kid.

7. any other kid would be automatically banned from the military academy
but not this kid,

The Ministry of Defence, however, said the furore would not affect his place at Sandhurst -- even though he will be subject to military discipline once he arrives.

"Furore", interesting choice of words.

11. He is 20 years old. Old enough to die in war.
I'm asking me what did he learned at school in England?

13. Well, that's a matter of opinion -
old enough to die in war, I mean. He's still a kid. Kids do stupid things, and this is a rich, spoiled kid. Do you think he spends a lot of time with his dad, assuming his dad has any kind of sensitivity? Just because he's a prince doesn't mean he's super highly evolved or anything. I'm sure he put very little thought into it beyond whatever made him think it would be a cool costume.

3. I've been to Auschwitz with
my gram and my grandpa three times. You get a creepy feeling and you swear you can smell burning flesh, but you can't. I don't understand why my grandparents want to go back there EVER. My grandparents lived with us when I was young and I thought it was normal for grandmas to wake up in the middle of the night screaming. I was about 10 when I realized they both had concentration camp tatoos. As I got older it was explained to me. What i'll never understand is why would anyone return to a place that was a living hell for them???

6. perhaps because it was so horrible that they feel they need to
be there to realize it wasn't a horrible nightmare...but an all too real reality.

just a guess...but my mom talks about traumatic events in her life ....in a way it is one part life lesson...and one part healing...
