CBS and Rather are being badgered, but is anyone looking into
wether there was any truth to the information in the memo Dan aired on his 60 Minutes program?

I guess I have to accept that the memos can't be documented as real, but no one has said the information was false.

Do you suppose some CBS investigators might be secretly trying to find out the real truth?

I know I wasn't shocked when I watched his broadcast because it was just supporting what I already believed about shrub.

1. Of course it's true
Nobody mentions the Ben Barnes interview where he cooks Bush's ass. It was fantastic...scathing...hung him out on a line. Mention Ben Barnes to a freeper and watch him bust a vein.

2. Has anyone interviewed the secretary again?
She remembers typing such memos but said the ones in CBS's possession weren't them.

3. Probably not, but she's 80+ isn't she?
What else can she say or prove?

I'm not talking about interviewing her, I'm talking about investigators digging. Find some proof that hasn't been aired yet.

Shrub didn't exist on the various bases alone! If he wasn't there at all, others were. Some of them should be about the same age as shrub, so they would be able to state they were in Squadron XXX and he just never showed up! What about his drinking buddies, old girl friends, etc. They all can't be still strong supporters!!

4. The AP filed a FOIA
and got additional information but if there's no one to say he was there it'll remain his word against his enemies. It's been rumored his records were cleaned up at least twice prior to his most recent run.

While I think the press, as usual, dropped the ball by concentrating on Rathergate instead of the issue of his absense, I really don't care whether or not he showed up at TXANG because it still wouldn't give him the right to send our sons and daughters to war. Even if he served all six years without missing a day, it was a rich boy's dodge to avoid Vietnam.

5. I care whether or not he showed up, but only because it would
show how much of a hypocritical LIAR he is.

You're right that serving wouldn't justify his pro-war stance. Frankly, I'd have dodged my ASS out of Vietnam, because I'm a wimp and not afraid to admit it.

But if he lied about his service... he should be held accountable.

6. True,
and it could be added to the rest of 'em. Even when they're caught in a lie - witness the threat the Social Security myth - the other side has been trained to disbelieve the msm already so it appears to stun only half the populace. More important than exposing lies to the already convinced is finding a way to put a chink in their armor of invincibility.

8. No One...
is going to touch this story. Not even with a ten foot pole in full NBC gear and a bomb suit. This story is pretty much dead and it is going to stay that way. The only way this story is ever going to come back to life is if the original documents ever turn up and that is not going to happen. Copies of anything are not going to mean shit anymore. No matter what turns up, Bushco will go "Prove it!" and it will die right there.

CBS made a big mistake by going to the air and having only copies. The originals would never have been marginalized like the copies were.
We can scream, "It's true! It's true!" all we want, but when Bushco demands proof, it ends right there.

9. We Need People Under Oath

Why Can't STONE, MacDOUGALD, and ROVE Be Put Under Oath
Starting with THIS lovely couple, Roger J. and Nikki STONE. His Repuke dirty tricks go back to age 19 for NIXON. Skipping along to the DOLE campaign, he was a chief adviser and pushed for "family values" as a main campaign theme. Then it transpired that he and Nikki were "swingers" who advertised for couples and he submitted pics of himself to body builder magazines. Skipping to another high point, he led the "Brooks Brothers Riot" at the elections office in Miami in 2000. In the CBS set-up, it was one "Lucy RAMIREZ" who offered the documents to BURKETT. Nikki is Hispanic (Cuban?).

As for MacDOUGALD, he is not credentialed in authenticating documents, yet he was claiming the CBS documents were forgeries within minutes/hours of the airtime--------without having SEEN the docs --------or HAD he?

Then there's ROVE (to have under oath). Think of the unending list of topics to cover---CBS, PLAME, to start with.

Then there's CHERTOFF------in charge of the anthrax "investigation".

.... According to Judge Hooper’s 36-page order, Roger Stone, through his Washington, D.C.-based firm, "Ikon Public Affairs", was the real agent behind the campaign in late 2000 and 2001 to defeat the Florida Justices in the 2002 merit retention election. But who, if anyone, was paying Roger Stone and giving him orders remains unclear. ....

Blogger Who Faulted CBS Documents Is Conservative Activist

WASHINGTON — It was the first public allegation that CBS News used forged memos in its report questioning President Bush's National Guard service — a highly technical explanation posted within hours of airtime citing proportional spacing and font styles.

But it did not come from an expert in typography or typewriter history as some first thought. Instead, it was the work of Harry W. MacDougald, an Atlanta lawyer with strong ties to conservative Republican causes who helped draft the petition urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to disbar President Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Times has found. ....

10. shh, quiet, nothing to see, move on please
Don't you know, the whole story was the supposedly forged memo? That small, icing on the cake piece that is not 100% sourced totally discredits the other 99% of the story.

11. Damn CBS.
They really screwed up on this one. In a close election they turned what was a negative into a rallying issue for chimps base. The facts became secondary to CBS mistakes. Wonder how many votes this cost Kerry?
