Secretary of State as Implementor of Nation-Building
One more thing that was offensive about Condi's testimony today was her assertion that, although she was against nation-building before, she looks forward to formalizing it as part of her SOS duties.

Nation-Building

1. Ain't it amazing? And no call this a "flip-flop."
I remember how she scowled when she chastised the Clinton administration for daring to help Bosnia and Kosovo and sticking our noses into Somalia and elsewhere. Now nation building is something to be admired, supported, and funded by the American taxpayer.

2. bush beats Condi all to hell on that flip-flop
Let me tell you what else I'm worried about: I'm worried about an opponent who uses nation building and the military in the same sentence. See, our view of the military is for our military to be properly prepared to fight and win war and, therefore, prevent war from happening in the first place."

-bush

"And so I don't think our troops ought to be used for what's called nation building."

-bush

"I don't think our troops ought to be used for what's called nation-building. . . . I think what we need to do is convince people who live in the lands they live in to build the nations. Maybe I'm missing something here. I mean, we're going to have a kind of nation-building corps from America? Absolutely not."

-bush
http://www.usatoday.com/educate/election04/article30.htm

"If we don't stop extending our troops all around the world in nation-building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road."

-bush
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2000/debates/transcripts/u221003.html

"We're not into nation building. We're focused on justice."

-bush

"I wouldn't have sent troops to Haiti. I didn't think it was a mission worthwhile. It was a nation-building mission."

-bush
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/03/02/once_against_nation_building_bush_now_involved

And read the rightwing Wall Street Journal CRITICIZE AND TRASH CLINTON for nation-building which, WSJ says, ONLY INCREASES THE THREAT OF TERRORISM, and how they PRAISED BUSH for his "COHERENT POST-COLD WAR FOREIGN POLICY" of NOT NATION-BUILDING:

AFGHANISTAN. IRAQ. HAITI. And bush's growing list of NATION-BUILDING planned.

ONLY RIGHTWINGNUTS and their FREEPO-FASCISTS could possibly be such ignorant stupid HYPOCRITES.
