The second guy was hilarious, but what's the story with the first guy? Can you provide any context?

8. there's a big radio station DJ with tourettes. He is fine on air but
he often says, "nice tits" to the staff and they just smile.

14. Mark Mathis. the show sucks, but he is genuinely funny.
I actually watched it straight through last night. He wasn't on there, he may have left that station.

I was going to start a thread about how offensive the Fox News Edge Charlotte is (that's the show the clips on the second link were from).

I was nauseated by it last night, there wasn't a female on there over 26 or so...But then I found out one of the talking heads was Beth Troutman, who is a dem and almost got elected to congress here (4th district?). But they still were nauseating me, they mentioned the sponge bob gay thing about ten times, and showed the hoochie-mama prom dress with a poll. But very little real news, it was very odd.

At the end of the night, someone complimented Troutman on her green shirt, and she practically shouted "I'll have to stop wearing such bright colors or the religious right will think I'm gay." It was so funny, because there was dead silence, I could just hear them thinking "Beth, we ARE the religious right, didn't you get the memo?"

I don't know Mathis' political affiliation but he always made me laugh. One time he ran through the whole song "The Roof is on fire, just skipping the words m*therf*cker in the chorus. And he is ALWAYS like that, every single day. You may be right, it may be an upper or something.

9. LoL!
First guy, sounds like he says, "Fucking mother whore... SHIT!". What in GOD'S name? I think he screwed up the sign off, didn't realize they were live, and was getting ready to retake? Something like that... pretty damn funny anyhow.

15. Mark Mathis was "let go"
...by his station after he checked himself into a treatment center in TX for alcohol addiction. The station said he violated the morality clause that every on-air personality has to sign at every station. He was at the Charlotte station for two years, doing his schtick daily, until his firing in November 2004. I work at a TV station, and those of us who knew about him have a really hard time with the station canning him because he tried to get help.

The first clip could have easily been a pre-recorded promo that never made air. We get GREAT bloopers from our anchors all the time at my TV station. Nothing like hearing a prim and proper anchor rip it up like a pirate when they flub a line.

based on these clips, assuming his shenanigans went live, I would watch that news show every single night.

21. I worked with Mark ages ago in a smaller market.
And the Mark on those tapes was not the Mark that I used to work with. He was always "zany" but when I saw those airchecks, I was shocked, and quite frankly, disturbed. There is no doubt that the management at WCCB are assholes--I once worked in that market too and am very familiar with the idiots that run the station.

Mark had been in rehab before, something which WCCB was very well aware of. But it's pretty apparent to me that they were more than happy to use him, hell, encourage him--in this behavior, just so long as it earned them ratings.

But when he spiraled completely out of control and sought help once more to get himself straighted out, they cold-heartedly dumped him. Great bunch of folks, huh? My guess is that they were afraid he'd come back to straight and sober and endanger their ratings. The bottom line at Bahakel is indeed, the bottom line. People are secondary. It's why it's considered to be the armpit of Charlotte broadcasting, not that any other station in that market is any better, particularly, but Fox-18 is particularly bad!

I sincerely hope that Mark has truly gotten the help he needs this time around and can finally put his life back together for good. I know that the powers-that-be at Bahakel are beyond all hope. In-between the corporate/GOP whoring that is now so prominent in newsrooms across this country, and the callous attitude of management that is all too common, I thank God every single day that I got out of the business while the getting was good.

By the way--those of you who thought this was funny--you need to do some serious thinking about your definition of funny.

20. Methinks An Engineer Was Pissed Off...
This looks like this was a pre-recorded clip to sit in a tight time window at the top of the newscast. He probably did several takes and one that shouldn't have aired got on the air. Usually this is an editor or producer's responsibility.

From one whose done tons of studio work, I've heard far worse and funnier when someone screws up...but usually those things end up on a Christmas party blooper reel or someone sends it to Dick Clark or whomever collects bloopers.

Ya gotta love local TV...some of the only original local programming left anywhere.

22. And oh yeah--TV lesson number 1--
never, ever, in a million years piss off the engineering staff/camera crews/behind-the-scenes folk. If you do, you WILL live to regret it and the proof will be right there for the entire world to see!

25. cheese -- I thought it was bad this morning ...
... when one of the Fox talking heads burped into the mike this morning (unfortunately after the camera had left, so I don't know which one).

Yes, sigh, we've got Fox on free preview on digital TV in Canada this month ... so we're watching, transfixed, in morbid fascination.

CBC's Fifth Estate did a Fox exposé last night (well, billed as an examination of the media in the US).

http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/sticksandstones.html
(there will probably be more content on line at a later date)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=190x3307

Ann Coulter, in interview, insisted that Canada had sent troops to Vietnam (so what's wrong with us now? you see). She insisted that the veteran Canadian political journalist telling her we "took a pass on that one" was wrong. She would undoubtedly have got clean away with that, if she'd been saying it on Fox.
