Poll question: Illegal Immigration
What should we progressives do about the illegal immigration issue? The right wing talks tough on this issue, but have done nothing to back it up. I believe this is because illegal immigration provides cheap labor, one of the most important things to the right wing. I say we expose the right wing on their phoniness! Both the illegal immigrants and American workers are the victims here. The immigrants are being exploited, and the American workers are being screwed. The enemy we need to band together against: cheap labor conservatism. What is the best way for us to do this?

2. Punish the people who knowingly employ illegals!
I currently work for repugs who employ illegals. They know that these guys have no papers. They let them drive company vehicles every day, knowing that they don't have a license to drive. they even let some of them drive the vehicles home. One of our biggest contracts is a chain of daycare centers. We don't know who these guys are, so we send them to mow grass at daycare centers. Pisses me off to no end. The best part - when they get speeding tickets, the repugs hire a lawyer to make them go away.

3. Open borders...
Travel between the US and Mexico should not be any harder than travel between the US and Canada, anything else is purely racist.

4. I really don't like the undercurrent of racism when the
immigrant problem is discussed because the only illegal immigrants discussed are the Spanish speaking ones. There are plenty of others who enter through our northern border and work illegally here. The problem will only be solved when employers are forced to pay a living wage with benefits. There will still be a need for immigrant labor so we need to develop laws so that these people can enter the country legally and be paid equal living wages and benefits while they are here and return to their countries when their job contract is over.
