Air America Radio on 1690 in Atlanta
Is anyone living in the Atlanta area having trouble listening to AAR on 1690? Do you know if they are still affiliated with 1690? Because, all day, while at work, I stream AAR via the internet. Then, when it is time to get off I use to listen to them in my car. Now, for the last couple of weeks, I get nothing but static when I try and listen to them. Some how, Sean Hannity and Neil Boortz come in loud and clear on 750 WSB. Can someone please shed some light this for me?

1. Low-power signal.
The transmitter is in DeKalb County (Avondale Estates), and it's only ten thousand watts, and drops to a thousand at night. Weather patterns may have something to do with it, too...solar interference can really fuck with AM signals; solar radiation creates a lot of wideband noise that keeps medium-wave radio signals from travelling very far.

2. I have the same problem.
I work in Marietta and live in Woodstock. I can't get reception from 1690 at either location. Oh yes, Hannity comes in crystal clear. I listen to WSB on the way home to get the traffic reports.

3. Daytime Vs. Nightime
This station reduces its power from 10,000 to 1,000 watts at local sunset. Right now that's about 5:30pm in Atlanta, but it'll move to 7pm next month.

They also just moved the station's antenna's to a new temporary location (Cheap Channel "moved" this station from near Augusta) using an antenna shared with another station and not really adequate for giving a great signal to the entire area.

Here's it's night time coverage:

WSB is 50,000 watts. Maybe if enough people listen to 1690, Cox Communications, that owns WSB will see the importance of balance in their programming.

7. Ah so it isn't fixed to drop at 7pm. it's local sunset.
I had no idea - i've been wondering why the signal's been crappy on the drive home, when it was okay during the summer. I figured it was somethign to do with Daylight Savings time.
