The Boos
I tuned out the SOTU, and so until this morning, I had no idea Shrub got booed. I'm just hearing the clip of it this morning.

It's hilarious. It reminds me of how the opposition in the House of Commons always boos Tony Blair when he says something they don't agree with.

4. Imagine that!
The Democrats grow some spine! Who knew? You think they finally figured out that it didn't help them to drink the kool aid and run as Bush Lite? They FINALLY got the memo!

12. They weren't booing, they were saying "NO" to his SS lie >
When he said SS would be bankrupt by 2042 it was such a transparent and obvious LIE that they all said "NO"

14. Did he flash an evil eye at them?
I decided to sleep through this year's speech. There wasn't anything else on, so ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I remember last year, he had a couple of places when the Dems did something and he jerked his head and focused his beady little eyes at them as if to say, "You're going to pay for that".

17. House of Commons is hilarious
At the very least, it forces them to think on their feet and not rely solely on prepared remarks. I don't think it would work as well here though.

19. It was fantastic. Bush looked like such a liar in that moment.
Someone finally called him on a lie- and it was in public. He looked over at the Dems' side of the room with a look that said, "hey- this isn't in the script".

22. Scarborough: "republicans never did this to Clinton"

From the Buffalo News on Bill Clinton's 1995 State of the Union speech: "At one point, Republicans even booed. About 20 of them left before Clinton finished talking." What did the Republicans boo for? Because Clinton dared to say that there were some things that government must do.

24. in the British parliamentary system, people boo, heckle, and pound desks
I figure Bush would last maybe 15 seconds in Canada or Britain, for example -- he hates being interrupted.

25. When someone lies to your face, it's your duty as a human to respond
This "decorum" argument is the one always used by the powerful against the weak.

Republicans booed Clinton in some of his state-of-the-union speeches; why are they so privileged that they can't be held to account? Well, that answers itself: they're morally "better", and don't have to be held to the same standards.

If one simply sits there as eggregious falsehoods are intoned as sanctified fact, it is one's duty to rebel.

They're nothing but snivelling cowards of privilege, and they're outraged that anyone could dare to think that their stances have merit.

Privilege is the heart and soul of conservatism: they're better, and the rancor of the inferiors is to be quashed at every turn.
