No Charges Will Be Filed Against Woman Who Killed Ex-Husband.
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 10:10 AM by jdj
This is in NC. It's nice to see the justice system work like it is supposed to.

"Charges will not be filed against a woman who shot and killed her ex-husband after he broke into her home the day before he was to appear in an Anson County Domestic Violence Criminal District Court.

"Joy Burgess, 26, will avoid prosecution for the Dec. 1 fatal shooting of Brian Lee Gathings, 29, ruled District Attorney Michael Parker, as stated in a Feb. 3 press release

Gathings broke into Burgess' home armed with a shovel while she and the couple's 6-year-old daughter were sleeping. Before breaking in, Gathings had severed the telephone line to the house and parked his truck about a mile away, Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen previously said.

"Burgess warned Gathings to leave several times, but Gathings continued toward Burgess in her bedroom," Parker stated. "Burgess then fired one shot and killed Gathings."

He apparently had quite a few domestic violence charges pending.

2. Glad to see justice has prevailed
I'm sure it won't be that easy toward the end of the horrific regime we've got now. There are changes on the horizon and none of them look good.

3. Yep. Someone comes into your home with a weapon
and seems intent on harming you -- justice is seeing that dude dead on your living room floor.
