A couple of notes to lurking Conservatives
1. Please quit quoting - especially out of context - Presidents FDR, Truman, Kennedy, and Clinton.
2. We don't need any "advice" from Republicans in regards to how to run the Democratic Party.
3. The next time you are "outraged" by something a Democrat said or did, take a second and ask yourself would you be equally "outraged" if a Republican did exactly the same thing?
4. A good idea, regardless of who it came from, is a good idea.
5. A bad idea, regardless of who it came from, is a bad idea.

DUers, please add your own...

It bolsters your credibility when you can actually back up an argument, and while I can only speak for myself, I will be more willing to listen to your points if I can determine their validity.

don't discount all the parallels between the definitions of and application of fascism, communism, nazism, totalianarism in other decades and centurees and today's right wing cabal in America (a merger of military, intelligence, banking, media, politicians, and industry-corporations) and whose agenda is to dominate to the point of slavery, camps, and serfdom, if you have the capability to project about where this is going.

Try to get your mind around what is really happening here with the thought that we may no longer be practicing democracy, but that we are having religion forced on us - a 180 turn from what we have been told is the main reason white people from Europe came to this land.

22. Make Cogent Arguments and We Will Listen
Spew hate, opinion, or drivel and we won't.

Use facts, ask questions (even pointed questions), and maintain civility and maybe we can all learn something.

If you come here to rant or to lecture, you're not going to go far. If you come here to engage, listen, and discuss you'll (generally) be accepted.

I know I for one enjoy an interesting and civil discussion of the issues with a conservative who knows what they're talking about. I've learned things before, and I know the conservatives I've talked to have learned things themselves. The more we isolate ourselves and yell the worse the rift in this country will get.

Your Neocon leaders copied Disraeli's musings on 19th Century politics and came up with only one thing on their own: Neocons tried to update Disraeli’s ideas for the 20th Century by bullying us into ignore all the facts of the 20th Century. Noise will not hide the fact that the neocons are actually intellectually void. As hard as you try, fascism is not a product of the left. The facts are that fascism is based on right wing patriotism, phony pride, and propaganda. Fascism tricks a nation into fulfilling the needs of a narrow elite.

Right now the Big Oil stock holders are making money hand over fist while their wealth is not sucked away by inflation like it was in the 1970s - even though the USA is at war. The Wal-Marts are making money by the open trade taking place in the world. This all takes place at a cost of jobs in the USA.

Don't you ever say that the Middle Class doesn't pay there way - or their taxes. They pay for everything. They even paid for the end of the cold war.

First off, calling me a Dick right up front is stupid and annoying.

Here are some of the similarities between the present Republican right wing world view and the Taliban's: Appeal to authority without question. Objectifying Others. Mixing religion and government. Indoctrination instead of education. A "return" to religious values. The death penalty.

And, given that we all get tarred with the "flag burning, America Hating" label when so very few of us practice such activities, what problem do you have with a taste of your own medicine?

Also, remember, Right Wing American terrorists have killed far more innocent Americans than have American lefties.

If our "side" has Stalin and Mao, your "side" has Hitler and Tojo........... Anyway, Stalin and Mao practiced and justified torture, just like your buddies. Stalin and Mao imprisoned people without charges.

And yes, I will admit that the American Left has more in common with Stalin and Mao than it does with the Taliban and Al Queda

70. Apology accepted
RW American terrorists are: The Ku Klux Klan and Tim McVeigh, there are probably others, but I think those two will do. The Klan and the Militia movement from which McVeigh arose, are decidedly right wing, certainly not mainstream, but certainly right wing.

I agree with you about House Cat and Tiger - but years of dealing with Hannity and Limbaugh have made some of us take up our adversaries' tactics. And when you threw down "Dick", I figured you were one yourself.

While you may be a reasonable guy, perhaps in the Goldwater mold, many of the right-leaning people I see tend to think there's no evil associated with their way of thinking. I see too much dealing in absolutes. There are very few absolutes. So, the Right Wingers that peruse these pages should probably take a look at what Right Wing thinking, taken to its extreme, can produce.

51. Don't assume everyone here is a Democrat.
The person you are arguing with might be an independant, or Green, or one of many other things. Nor, as has been pointed out, do even the Democrats here consider everything each and every Democrat and the Democratic party as a whole does to neccessarily fully reflect their own views.

Especially if you hail from FreeRepublic, you might find this to be a bit perturbing. Here we respect dissent. What unifies us are our values, not a "party line."

Just bashing on the institution of the Democratic Party or individual Democrats won't help you. The principles and facts behind the matter are what we like to discuss.

56. you are free to dig a hole
...in the sand and stick your head in. Don't expect us to help you cover it up. If you want to bury your head in the sand, that's fine, we will always try to help you pull your heads out, when and if you are willing.

59. Don't confuse ..
... the talking points you regurgitate like a pull-string doll as actual intelligence or knowledge. You are being used and the folks using you are laughing at you as well.

61. Just because you're making $80k/yr
That doesn't mean that you're in the top 1%. You've got more in common with the single-mom burger-flipper at Wendy's who works a second job scrubbing floors, than with the CEO who gets $5mil for planning to move your job to India.

64. Don't use the damn Bible to justify your bigotry.
Remember, there are about 400 passages about helping the poor, but only 5 about homosexuality. You can't pick and choose--either it's all true or it's not!

67. Admit that being "Right"
does not give you divine insight and wisdom. Sometimes, you are just plain WRONG.

Own it when this happens.
