To those who think they are more oppressed than others...OOH SHA SHA!
Sometimes I'm right and I can be wrong.
My own beliefs are in my song.
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then,
makes no difference what group I'm in,

I AM EVERYDAY PEOPLE. Yeah yeah.

There is a blue one who can't accept the green one
for living with a fat one trying to be a skinny one,
and different strokes for different folks.
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee.
Ooh sha sha. WE GOT TO LIVE TOGETHER!

I am no better and neither are you.
We are the same whatever we do.
You love me, you hate me, you know me, and then
you can't figure out the bag l'm in?

I AM EVERYDAY PEOPLE. Yeah yeah.

There is a long hair that doesn't like the short hair
for bein' such a rich one that will not help the poor one.
And different strokes for different folks.
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee.
Ooh sha sha. WE GOT TO LIVE TOGETHER!

4. Sly sang the truth!
There's so many of us oppressed and hurting right now, comparing grief in rank of severity does us no good. We have to live together and work together to pull ALL of us out of oppression!

2. Actually we're all less oppressed than many in the world
and we're lucky. Let's just continue the fight to keep it that way.

20. Fear No Evil
But spread the word, raise awareness, the patriot acts MUST be repealed. Write your Senators. The patriot acts are equivalent to hitler's "enabling act".
Lot's of 60's and 70's music had a TRUE message in it.
Thanks Sly Stone!

3. Ugh. I think this all stems from the fact that Americans rarely take the..
...time to study history institutions and economics.

For the last time: I'm a White Male who is not Poor. I am NOT Institutionally Oppressed in any way shape or form.

If I were Black, and everything else was the same, that would no longer be the case.

6. And if you were a gay white male?
Or a lesbian Asian?

Or, or, or? Why try to quantify grief? If we do not stand together we shall all surely fall together.

10. There are what I thought were differences in levels and intensities
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 10:16 PM by JanMichael
Apparently however my ability to make those clear over this medium are severly limited.

I've been oppressed by the WWW.

But that's not quite the same as being oppressed by the Bank, or the Cops, or Insurance providers, or Employers, etcetera.

11. I think I may have missed something on one of your threads
As you said 'for the last time' earlier. My point is as Democrats I would hope we would always watch out for _any_ oppression. I don't see what good comparisons of pain are, pain hurts to he or she who is feeling it.

12. There are serious and deadly serious problems.
Of course we should fight all oppresion both Ethnic, and the Oppression that most people don't give a shit about, Economic.

Some are tied to another some existing seemingly independent.

Some are socially oppresive some are economically opressive, some are both.

I hate to sound vague and confusing but while we must fight all oppression I'm not sure everyone knows what they all are. I'm sure not arrogant enough to say I know and fight them all.

I've got my main priority, that's Economic Oppression, which I think encompasses many other issues but there are some that fall outside the giant swindling machine.

Either way I'm a hardcore anti-Racist and amatuer Feminist since I found out how blind I was to sexism. Oh and my wife, once she graduates, will marry Gays in the Epicopal Church, so this Atheist is covering as many plates as he can:-)

Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 11:04 PM by William Bloode
Hate speech, and disrespect no matter where it comes from, or who uses it in the end it hurts us all. You cannot say one form of derogatory speech, or oppressive behavior is any better or worse than any other. Hate and disrespect are hate and disrespect.

No matter what are color we are all humans, and hence we should endeavor to treat out fellow brothers and sisters with dignity and respect no matter what color or class.
