BRAD BLOG: CNN 'N. Korean' Nuke Site Found on U.S. GOV FUNDED 'News' Site!
CNN's 'North Korean' Nuke Plant Shows Up Again at U.S. GOV FUNDED 'News' Site!
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty used Photo of same Nuke Plant -- presumably from Iran -- in a N. Korea Story in Early 2004!
Filename for that photo is 'IRAQ-Nuclear.jpg'!

Following up on yesterday's report at:
http://www.bradblog.com/archives/00001187.htm

...and with the help of a few eagle-eyed DU'ers from this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=3107937&mesg_id=3107937

Yesterday we reported that CNN's website was using photo's of the same alleged nuclear facility in two different stories about two different nuclear programs in two different countries.

One CNN story, from last Wednesday, was on Iran's purported nuclear program, the other, from last Saturday, was on North Korea's purported nuclear program.

And now...another "news" outlet has been discovered who used another photograph of that same facility -- which is apparently in Iran -- in yet another story on North Korean nukes!

The newly discovered story is from March of 2004 and was found on the U.S. government funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty website!

What the hell is going on here?
Details and photos at:

40. Remember, they "create their own reality"...
This administration writes the 'news', and the media fleshes out the stories with stock footage/photos.

The average American is living in an almost-total DREAM-WORLD.

Half of me loves to hear about administration blunders - after all, it's only a matter of time before self-destruction.

...Of course, the other half of me is scared shitless hearing news like this.

I followed the advice of one of the comments on your blog, and here's where I found this same photo and the captions:

A suspected nuclear facility in Iran

(That was their actual caption. Getting cocky, I guess)

This one was missing the photo, but the search engine still brought it up (and there's no other occurance of 'nuclear' in the text). Here's the title:

31. Omg the caption under that picture says
"Convincing enough?"

I'm blown away. At first I really believed it was just a matter of a mix up. Then I even believed that the name of the jpg "iraq-nuclear" was just a typo. It wasn't until I saw this actual article about Iraq with the same pic as for Iran and N. Korea that I realized the enormity of it.

We also need to realize that members of Congress are buffalo'd the same way we are. Congress really needs to "get it."

Great catch to the sleuth's - in fact this is an enormous catch since it now definitely can't be bs'd away.

I hope enough people have ss of this pic linked to Iraq, Iran, and North Korea.

27. my take on this...
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 12:40 PM by TheModernTerrorist
this is my take on it, and I don't know if anybody else has said this yet, or if anybody else thinks this, but the picture they keep using isn't an actual picture of one or the other, or BOTH even, but used more as a piece of flair to their news article. It says "hey, this article is about nuke plants, like this one over here". Now whether or not they've been goofing and trying to use the same pic as proof of these nuke plants, I dunno. I'm still skeptical of these claims, but I doubt that these are the pictures they are using. All I'm saying is that CNN.com has a tendency to use and overuse the same images to put on their story. Whoever edits this crap must've said "hey, this is a pretty damn good pic of a nuke plant, let's use it HERE, since this article TALKS about nuke plants".

at least this is MY take on it. I wouldn't blow any of this out of proportion, despite my criticism over their claims.

I know if I were writing a story about nukes in Iraq, knowing it was a hot topic of contention, my first thought would be to grab a generic stock photo from another country and label it "convincing enough?"

37. Only problem with that take...
...Is that CNN originally captioned the photo as:
"An aerial photo of North Korea's Yongbyon nuclear plant outside of Pyongyang"

So to accept your particular take on this, we'd also have to accept that they knew they were giving disinformation to their readers then by including the photo as "flair" to add to spice up the story.

Seems a fairly foolish game for a "news" site to play just for "flair"!
