2. No one's perfect

He's great on so many other issues, I'll forgive him this.

Actually, this has to do with his constituency on Cape Cod and the Islands. A lot of the residents there (believe it or not) are against the wind farm. They're afraid it'll spoil their view, and get in the way of their boats. Yeah, I know it's lame. I'm support wind energy, personally.

3. Im guessing this is why:
"Opponents say the turbines would harm wildlife, destroy the offshore view and harm the fishing and boating industries."

6. Like we have a choice?
We can build alternatives or keep burning coal.

Sorry this is a case of pure NIMBYism.

9. I agree, it is NIMBY
But, apparently his constituents don't want this in their backyard. So that might be where his opposition is coming from.

4. This particular development has been under fire for a while in MA
Because no one has any idea how they will impact the biology of the ocean where they go up. There are many conflicting studies since the turbines generate a ton of noise which is amplified and travels for long distances under water, not to mention other environmental factors. Just because these things don't burn fossil fuels doesn't make them environmentally friendly.

5. He's got a constituency he's responsible to in Massachusetts, which
explains why he opposes that windfarm. Actually he's environmentally friendly.

2003-2004 On the votes that the League of Conservation Voters considered to be the most important in 2003-2004, Senator Kennedy voted their preferred position 92 percent of the time.

2003-2004 On the votes that the American Lands Alliance considered to be the most important in 2003-2004, Senator Kennedy voted their preferred position 100 percent of the time.

2003-2004 On the votes that the National Parks Conservation Association considered to be the most important in 2003-2004 , Senator Kennedy voted their preferred position 100 percent of the time.

8. I heard on the radio something about wind farms...
...killing, like, thousands of bats and birds.

People would be walking around the base of the giant windmills picking up decapitated geese and stuff.

I thought it was weird.

10. These decapitated birds would be fish food
Since this wind farm is being proposed for Nantucket Harbor.

11. How many birds fly three+ miles out
The closest to shore windmill would still be over three miles out. How many birds will even travel out that far? I can picture Gulls nesting out there, if they are able to get food in the area.

12. Like I said, it was a weird thing I heard...
...and anyway it was mostly about the bats, because I think they put one near a bat cave or something. One thing the story made clear to me was that birds ARE dumb enough to fly right in the path of the blades and bats aren't quite as agile as we always thought.

I generally favor wind energy and don't know the specifics of the windmills proposed for Massachusetts. "It'll spoil the view." was an argument advanced against the WTC as well as against the Empire State Building... Specious, I think.

13. IIRC it was West Virgina
There was/is concern that a number of dead Bats were found below some wind turbines. Apparently the Bats sonar does not pick up the blades as a solid object or something to be avoided.

AFAIK people are looking into the issue to see what can be done. So that the Bats will stay away from the turbine blades.
