8 Senate Dems + Chaffee may derail Bush's "Clear Skies" initiative
On Wednesday, those 9 Senators, members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, held firm and forced the GOP to delay a vote on Bush's so-called "Clear Skies" initiative.

See this article for more details: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/17/politics/17enviro.html

If they continue to hold firm, they can kill the bill by forcing a tie vote in the committee. The 8 Dems are: Jeffords (VT), Baucus (MT), Lieberman (CT), Boxer (CA), Carper (DE), Clinton (NY), Lautenberg (NJ), and Obama (IL).

Any Rhode Islanders out there be sure to make sure that Chafee stays on the right side on this issue.

I've written some more on the Bush plan and its defenders (e.g., Gregg Easterbrook) at my blog: http://pmbryant.typepad.com/b_and_b/2005/02/cloudy_skies.html

3. Chafee's Environmental Record is better than that of many Democrats.

I don't think we have to worry about him.

And he still calls himself GOP, so I can't trust him. But I'm glad he appears to be doing the right thing here.

5. Wow....good news
I wonder if Baucus and Chafee will continue to vote no. The clear skies initiative is a disaster.
