OK... It has to be asked. WHY did "Gannon" do that interview???
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 08:39 PM by Goldmund
I thought that he was either going to come clean (less likely) or he had a well-crafted coverup. He just went there without a clue about what he was going to say and how we was going to answer the obvious questions.

Why do the interview at all? All this does is 1) Extends the legs of the story even further and 2) Strengthens suspicions and inspires people to dig even deeper into his past and present, and his connections.

Who did he think he was going to help? Why did he do this?

Speculate away.

37. No, it's because the reich put a gun to his head and told him
to get his ass out there. The reich controls the media, and unless people are willing to look at porn, they aren't going to believe this is as bad as it is.

So he cleans up, puts on a tie, and does the circuit. People go, well, that's a normal looking man, it can't be that bad. (I.e. he can't REALLY be gay). That's the point of course, but I believe Rove is still calling the shots. Right now Gannon is fearing for his life and will probably do anything they tell him to do.

54. well said!
He looked liked one of those kidnapped journalists we have seen videos of from Iraq.

I was going to look up his voter registration to see if he has always been a Republican but you need a birthdate and zip to pull up his voter registration records on the DC Board of Elections site. I'm really starting to wonder if Gannon became Mr. Conservative when he was offered this job.

4. Limited hangout
The Limited Hangout - A PSYOP Strategy of Deception

Council on Foreign Relations members in the intelligence community and the media use a psychological strategy called a "limited hangout." A "limited hangout" is used by Intelligence Organization's when a clandestine operation goes bad; or, a phoney cover story blows up. When discovered the Intelligence Organization volunteers some of the truth while still managing to withhold key and damaging facts in the case.

The public is so intrigued by the new information it doesn't pursue the matter further. The new disclosures are sensational, but superficially so. Some of the lesser scoundrels are identified and publicly exposed to twist uncomfortably on network TV and in the press.

So that the attacks dogs (liberal bloggers) will lose the scent. Gannon is not the real story, he is a fairly irrelevant pawn in their game.

73. i found the interview very telling...he said...
he said ..

ive made mistakes...

was your employer aware of your past ...

"i was asked to be a reporter"

who asked him to be a reporter?? who???..when was he asked to be a reporter..before he went to the two day class to be a reporter??
who asked him to be a reporter??..jeff/jim ..said he was asked to be a reporter..so who asked him to be a reporter???

most reporters are reporters by a carreer choice , they study to be a reporter..not a $50.00 2 day course...with lunch included....

so who asked him to be a reporter..that was very telling in this interview!! and when was he asked to be a reporter..and by who??

and was the person who asked him to be a reporter, did that person have access to valerie plames classified document memo??

he lied about his conversation to joe wilson..so who do we believe a prostitute or joe wilson who saved americans lives in gulf war 1..and who was a life long diplomat??

this guy was sent there to make himself a victim..but what he said is very telling!

"whats been done to me" gannon says over and over.....that was roves way of getting stupid assed freepers to protest the investigation into this white house pimps life! and how close it goes to *

Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 02:18 AM by icehenge
I can only imagine that IF rove let Gannon go ahead
with the interview that it was because Rove or
someone high up thought it would lead the
investigation in the wrong direction.

Thats all a big IF because Gannon could have just
decided to do this himself.

If Gannon had some dirt on me, I wouldn't want to have
him on TV being interviewed. Well unless I made him a
deal not spill the beans. Maybe that is why Gannon
was so nervous.

I encourage others to ponder the why question too.
The more ideas the less chance we are mislead.

He was trying to make people feel sorry for him and frame the whole story to be merely about a sincere conservative doing his best in a new career to overcome the mistakes of his past but unfairly targeted by mean liberals because of his political views. He was trying to restore his legitimacy as a reporter and get the WH and his GOP 'news' bosses off the hook by denying he was a plant and denying they knew about his escort activities. He gave RWingers talking points to grasp onto to defuse the scandal.

Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 01:24 AM by thecorrection
:tinfoilhat:

I think he was told by his admin contact to do it. The reason I think this is because he used the line McClellan did about aliases.

The press secretary also did not find fault with Guckert, who has admitted that he set up escort-service Web sites, reporting from the White House under an alias, as long as his legal name was the basis of his security review. "People use aliases all the time in life," McClellan said, "from journalists to actors. He was cleared under his legal name."

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000799881

Guckert used the same talking point about the name thing:

COOPER: But when you would go into the White House to get a pass for a briefing, you would use the name James Guckert.

GANNON: Yes, because that's the name on my driver's license.

COOPER: And then -- but then you would switch to Jeff Gannon to ask questions?

GANNON: Because that is the name that I do my reporting under. It's not uncommon for journalists, authors, actors, to have pseudonyms.

53. The power players told him to get his ass out there and DENY the WH
ever gave him any inside info or that they planted him. He looked extremely nervous. He was saying what THEY told him too.

It reminded me of those videos of the kidnapped journalists in Iraq who are forced to say things by their kidnappers.

Gannon is being used by the WH and they intentionally chose someone weak, so they would have control over him. I really don't think Gannon sought this out on his own. They found him, hired him to do their dirty work and I don't think it was just being a propaganda operative. They may have hired him to hunt down Gays and out them. Who better to do this than another Gay?

He was very nervous and scared during that interview. He's not scared of the liberal bloggers, he's scared of being under the control of the evil WH.

Don't be surprised if this guy "committs suicide."

60. I thought he looked scared - he stammered a lot -
I think they "got to him." I also wonder how long he'll be alive.

63. Damage control...
The White House knows that without Gannon himself garnering the attention, it will soon be turned to them. Gannon was forced to go on to absorb the negative affect of this scandal for the WH.

The thing that stirkes me most about this is that the bloggers seem to be one step ahead of the White House at every turn. The WH is good when they are prepared for something, but they were not expecting this. They have been lying left and right and contradicting themselves...it's obvious that they're guilty as hell. They may not be able to wrap this up into a neat little package like they have done for the 100 other scandals. They are not on top of this. We need to keep up a relentless attack.

66. And it was a Friday- Gannon was probably coached with a hand-
picked interviewer supposed to be *softballs*, parrotting carefully rehearsed lines so as to hopefully nip this in the bud over the weekend.

Oops.

64. "That's the job I was given" he said about his reporting.
Somebody mentioned it here:

So if reporting was the "job he was given" - by whom? I find this most intriguing - then he was also told to give this interview. In spite of his having told before that his lawyers told him to keep mum.

67. Someone needs to get to this guy . . . seriously . . .
before he's "disappeared" and the story is lost forever. Does anyone think it COULDN'T happen? If Gannon/Guckert/Bulldog was smart, he'd appear at his local FBI office and sing his heart out. (And he should bring along some witnesses for protection.)
