Gannon 'People criticize me for being a Christian' WTF????
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 12:46 AM by spanone
Check it out, right under the pic of Morgan Fairchild. WTF? Style???
www.washingtonpost.com

And boy is Howie shilling. Howie is REALLY playing the gay angle. I love the last sentence when Gannon says he's persecuted cause he's a christian. Holy shit.

"People criticize me for being a Christian and having some of these questionable things in my past," he said. "I believe in a God of forgiveness."

I have not heard ANYONE even mention that he's a christian (who would have thought otherwise from the pictures) let alone criticize him for it.

1. Little Howie Kurtz
is running scared on this story. He's afraid he's next for something. He's just too defensive.

Works for all Republicans; no time limit, either. Absolves all sins. But let a Democrat be caught in a moment of weakness - there will be hell to pay.

31. Exactly!! I posted over in LBN about this.
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 11:18 AM by truth2power
He dropped that "Christian" thing into the conversation apropos of nothing at all. He knows the drill. That gives him his bona fides with the Wingnut community. That whole "saved once, always saved" thing. So they can support him with a clear conscience.

And I'll say it again, here - that whole statement STINKS of RW talking points. :puke:

edit> Oh, and he accuses people of looking into his "sexual history". Holy crap! No one was looking into his sexual history. They were researching his SECOND JOB fercrissakes!!!

Who wrote this drek for him??

4. What's the difference between Gannon and John Fund?
"Is that what we're going to do to reporters now? Is there some kind of litmus test for reporters? Is it right to hold someone's sexuality against them?"

Well, Jim/Jeff, it's the hypocrisy. John Fund was out there parading as a pro-life hard core conservative. In private, he was having his fun with a mother/daughter team when the daughter became pregnant and wanted him to marry her. He offered to pay for an abortion.

(Faux) religion and (faux) patriotism are the last refuges of scoundrels. ("Religion" and "patriotism" are also two of the things that scoundrels usually seek to exploit -- even before they are driven to seek open refuge there from their crimes.)

...

"Faux" = "fake" (if there is anyone who doesn't know). As in, Marge Simpson wears faux-pearls (at most times, anyway).

And I like the pronunciation "fox"... It conveys so much more.

15. I've read every post and every linked article here at DU...
and not once have I even read he was a "Christian" except
in direct quotes from Jeff-ro himself...

He's wrapping himself with X-tianity to hide.

Despicable behavior and not only that... It violates two
of the ten commandments.

"Thou shalt not bear false witness."
"Thou shalt not use the lord's name in vain."

Neither qualities, by the way, are attributed to Christianity.

He's just another Republican sleaze bag who thinks he can find purity by hiding behind the cross.

12. I don't think linking his Christianity
with his persecution is going to work this time. His nudie shots on gay websites trump the Christian card. It's one thing for a family man heterosexual to be caught having a dalliance. He'll cry crocodile tears and actually get some sympathy. But there's a double standard at work here. The right is not going to accept this from a gay conservative. He won't be allowed to play the Xtian card. It's reserved. For old white guys who have girlfriends. Right, Newt?

36. You're making sense
it's this story which has huge credibility lapses. An unknown journalist with sketchy credentials for a hastily formed "news" on-line service using an alias is able to get unaccustomed access to the White House. Access that is denied to Helen Thomas, Sarah McClendon, and Maureen Dowd, and many others, despite their affiliation with reputable news organizations and their years of covering Washington, D.C. This guy also gets FBI clearance and is handed exclusives from the White House which he feeds to selected wingnut media types like Hannity, who lauds him as a distinguished journalist. Though, in fact, he has very thin journalistic experience. His background is actually as a male prostitute with tax evasion problems. So much for security issues, Mr. President. And Scotty McClellan, you're another Bushie not doing your job.
This story requires huge leaps of faith. Maybe that's why Gannon considers himself a Christian.

14. Yeah, born-again scumbags...
...really dig that "God of forgiveness" stuff - as long as it only applies to them.

To paraphrase the comic book character Cerebus:

"I do something bad, and God forgives me. So then I forget about the bad thing I did, until the next time. Forgive 'n' forget.

"It's practically my motto...

"Forgiven? Forget!"

use the "Christianity Defense." (And there's nothing more sacred than a bald, naked, spread eagled guy.) Gannon/Guckert/Bulldog would be smart to slink away into a corner and start praying this scandal passes within the next 3 or 4 years.

20. Of course no one has criticized him for
being a Christian. That is an absolute falsehood. Furthermore, I don't believe he is smart enough to think of that response himself. So one has to ask, who has been coaching him? The response he gave is typical RW diversion, put your detractors on the defensive so as to blur the whole subject. Could it be Rove?

26. Here was his whining quote I thought was the direction
the spin was going to take:

"Why would they be looking into a person's sexual history?"

No one was looking into his sexual history. His "history" was plastered all over the web. If you put it out there, someone is going to find it, even without trying too hard. The spinners for the right want it to look like something sleazy was done to take down a "good Christian, whose life has changed through Jesus". Baloney! Gannon/Guckert threw himself out into the public in every way possible.
