Swedish news: US press release claims a car fire killed Italian bodyguard
"The American army's third infantry battalion asserts in a press release that the driver “refused to stop". The military then shot the car's engine blocks and that this fire is what caused the death of Nicola Calipari and injured Giuliana Sgrena and two other unnamed Italian agents."

2. Even if this were true, what difference between this and he died directly
from a gunshot--if the gunshot blew up his car and the explosion/fire killed him, same difference.

I mean, really now.

7. NPR reported a gunshot wound to the head and 300 rounds.
The vehicle was 700 yards from the airport entrance and they had already gone through several checkpoints.

12. Yup, official autopsy results: bullet wound to the head
http://www.repubblica.it/2005/c/sezioni/esteri/iraq45/autopsia/autopsia.html

It's in Italian, but basically the autopsy says Nicola died of a single bullet would to the head. Unclear how just ONE bullet hit him. In the head.

3. And if you can't understand Swedish text ......
you'll find it here.... in English !

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/0D7282B7-B969-4665-BFBB-18A16046B023.htm

This seems to have been a bungled assassination attempt considering they used 300 to 400 hundred bullets !

5. Yes, that article doesn't mention a "car fire" though
It appears that in an early attempt to explain this away the military was trying to imply that the car exploded or something, that the humans inside suffered no bullet wounds.

11. The article has been miss translated
The first part talks about how Sagrena is accusing the US of firing without reason. She says the car was not driving at high speed.

Here's a translation of the US explanation:

American military claims that Sagrena's car was approaching the road block at high speed at 8.55pm Friday. The car continued despite hand and light signals, and warning shots from the US soldiers.
The American third infantry division claims in a press release that the car refused to stop. The military then fired at the engine block, and this firing (of weapons, not fire as in burning flames) killed Nicola Calipari and wounded Guiliana Sgrena and two other not named Italian agents.
