Newsweek POll: Kerry polls best against Bush
When registered voters were asked who they would vote for in a general presidential election between Bush and a Democratic opponent, Bush won every race—against Dean (53 percent vs. 38 percent), Edwards (51 percent vs. 39 percent), Gephardt (51 percent vs. 42 percent), Kerry (50 percent vs. 42 percent) and Lieberman (52 percent vs. 39 percent).

1. Yeah, but not by much.
The differences between all of them are tiny at best. Wait until Bush is under 50% for any of them for this to matter. Though, I am impressed, I wouldn't think Kerry would be leading.

4. Is it issues or name-recognition?
That is the important factor, though I admit the differences between the Democratic candidates are barely large enough to be significant.

5. Depends on whether your guy has good numbers.
Some folks around here dismiss all polls that don't look good for their candidate.

6. I'm for Kerry, but this is name-recognition
I think 66% of our guys STILL can't name a Democratic candidate.

About 3/4 of the people around where I am have not a clue who any of the candidates are. Very sad. :(

9. Check out Lieberman
I agree that at this point in the game very few people even know who the Democratic candidates are. But if the results of this poll were only name recognition, why isn't Lieberman doing better than the other Democrats? Besides the fact he is a corporate toady...

10. Good news for all of our candidates
Bush is only between 50-53 percent--not that great considering that no campaign has been underway yet and the electorate isn't really paying attention. Also, Dean is statitically at 38% doing about as well as Edwards and Lieberman against Bush and not much worse than Gephardt and Kerry (who each has 42%) and who are still much better known around the country than Dean.

11. right now, these are really showing Bush is pretty weak
These results are not skewed by a big bux re-election campaign, so this is probably a failry accurate read on how weak Bush is.

He beats the Dems, but not by much...4 percentage points at worst.

Interesting that Edwards shows up so good here,

Im assuming this poll had an "undecided" answer, too...
