Congress Mulls Cutting Food Aid to Poor

Sat Mar 12, 8:53 AM ET Politics - U. S. Congress

By LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Cuts in food programs for the poor are getting support in Congress as an alternative to President Bush (news - web sites)'s idea of slicing billions of dollars from the payments that go to large farm operations.

Senior Republicans in both the House and Senate are open to small reductions in farm subsidies, but they adamantly oppose the deep cuts sought by Bush to hold down future federal deficits.

The president wants to lower the maximum subsidies that can be collected each year by any one farm operation from $360,000 to $250,000. He also asked Congress to cut by 5 percent all farm payments, and he wants to close loopholes that enable some growers to annually collect millions of dollars in subsidies.

Instead, Republican committee chairmen are looking to carve savings from nutrition and land conservation programs that are also run by the Agriculture Department. The government is projected to spend $52 billion this year on nutrition programs like food stamps, school lunches and special aid to low-income pregnant women and children. Farm subsidies will total less than half that, $24 billion.

10. Well
That can be accomplished many ways

General strike?
riots?
revolution?
Basically intruding in on the media, and taking over the airwaves to be heard and not letting the bullies dictate the rules and what is moral for us?
or simply refusing to let the sociopaths in government claim authority over your own conscience, and sharing what you have with others if you can.Sharing takes the most courage, and trust in your own judgments and ability to say yes or no,to someone in need,to share some of what you have with other people so we all can prosper. And to with drawl sharing from those who use you or demonstrate an abusive character who do not care.
Sometimes If you observe it's people who have very little who give away alot(considering how little they have),maybe it's because they appreciate what they have and they can love more than self absorbed people?

And not standing by and letting evil triumph by doing nothing because you ain't poor(yet).

7. In dire times
certain societies under tyranical dictatorships did descend into cannibalism. I think I recall that in China during the Great Leap Forward and the Soviet Union under Stalin...and Cambodia under Pol Pot.

Hopefully it won't end up that bad.

3. One would expect nothing less from a Totalitarian Nation like Amerika
After all, those programs were holdovers from Free America, and Imperial Amerika stands for the diametric opposite of what Old Free America stood for.

Thus, if Old America stood for trying to give the Common People a safety net and a fighting cahnce to come back from calamity, Imperial Amerika views it's non-productive Filthy Little Nobodies or "Fodder Units" as Emperor-in-Waiting Jeb calls them, as discardable parts.

JUST like Ferdinand Marcos, JosefStalin, Idi Amin, Saddam Hussien, and all the other Leaders who are on the same side of the fence as the Imperial Family of Amerika.

9. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
Quite the contrary. It is * and co. who, while professing to believe in Christ's teachings, flagrantly disobey and ridicule them by their actions and policies. Taking care of the poor and needy was one of Jesus's biggest projects and concerns.

why don't we just hunt them down and kill them.

How expensive do you think it would be to just kill them all?
