quote of the day: "I didn't realize there was this much violence"
nothing against this woman, but this quote says a lot...

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/iraq/la-fg-videos14mar14,0,629306,print.story?coll=la-home-headlines

<snip>

"They're terrifying," she said by phone from Texas. "Chase never talked about anything over there, and I watch the news, but not all the time. I didn't realize there was that much" violence.

1. I think family members unconsciously try to shut it out.
I'm not surprised she didn't consciously realize there was so much violence... it would cause a lot of pain to face the reality that your loved one is in such a situation every single day.

What a waste... all those lives... all that money...

2. Is she talking about Iraq?
What did she think? It was a big huge party bash of "Freedom" and "democracy"?

4. Well she probably had only seen what's shown on the news
which isn't much.

She was aware that there was violence and death, but being aware of it in an abstract way is MUCH, MUCH different than facing the actual results of the US spreading freedom and democracy by force.

That's why the news is sanitized to the degree it is. If people saw what was going on... they might not be so supportive of these 'adventures'. And that wouldn't be good for business, would it?

3. How anyone can support troops like this is beyond me.
...an abundance of photographs and video footage depicting mutilation, death and destruction that soldiers collect and trade like baseball cards.

Bunch of sick fucks, I don't care how much they were forced into fighting bush's War of Choice.

7. Yep. I've talked to a couple of military moms
who were tring to convince me to vote for Bush* before the 2004 selection....they were convinced from watching Faux that things were going really really really well, but that the 'librul' media wasn't talking about 'all the good things' and only focusing on a few bad things that were really quite rare.

These moms were desperate for their son's efforts to have been for a great and good cause, and had on a huge filter to keep out anything factual that might disabuse them of that longed for notion.

Very sad. Very very sad.

8. very sad
they so want to convince themselves that its a just endeavor that they're willing to blind themselves to everything. even if one were to believe that the "liberal" media was focusing only on the bad things the fact would still remain that the bad things are happening. its not like everything is peaches there and the media is making up things to embarrass the pResident. i feel so sorry for them and the soldiers who are there and continue to believe that what they're doing and sacrificing is making the country in any way safer....

10. Let's face it - how would you like to spend a lot of time, money, and
effort to support something that you've been taught since you were a baby is the greatest government on earth. And then it turns out it's the most corrupt and evil government since Hitler. I can remember during Vietnam that it took a lot to realize that our protector isn't. Our governments job is to protect the people that bribe our congress officials. Where does one go when the enemy is your own government? How do you keep going to work everyday and pay those taxes?

6. How sad. But what do we expect to happen to children who
are sent to kill other people? And some of these "soldiers" are only children. It is frightening.

9. 'Bad guys'
start preemptive wars on false pretenses.

If you work for the 'scumbags' who do such things, what does that make you?

You know, Thomas Jefferson wasn't a particularly religious person, but he once said "I tremble for my country when I realize that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever."

Something for these boys to think about while trading murder videos with one another. Eternity awaits. Do they believe a just God will laugh along with them while watching the videos?

11. And yet we still see none of it in the corporate media
They want the entire nation to live in denial. I wish everyone in America were forced to watch these videos. No one should be allowed to pretend that war is something glorious that only kills the bad guys.

12. WTF does she think war and urban combat are?
The sanitized version she sees in the M$M, apparently.
