Poll question: What state/region will be the first to secede from the USA?
It may not happen in our lifetimes, but will most likely happen sometime in the future. Entropy is the law of the Universe. It takes an enormous amount of Energy to keep an empire together. The USA has barely held itself together for a little over 200 years, and in its current form for far less. It is bound to pull apart or collapse eventually. Ask Russia, Vienna and Rome if you have doubts.

So, which State or region will be the first to take their ball and go home?

1. The former CSA states will do it
They might take Florida but I'm not sure though.

9. I considered the former CSA, but...
I figured that history won't repeat itself in that respect.

10. History always repeats itself for the ignorant and apathetic
Which is the majority of southern voters except those who post on DU of course.

13. They would only do it if GOP became such a minority...
that they are treated unfairly. However, paradoxically, for that to happen a few of the former CSA would probably be blue states.

14. the south will rise again....
someday... The hope that has continued since the day after the war. We almost won our independence twice (once from Britain, and almost from the north). If one of the states goes, all of the will go. I think the people the south will follow just to be part of the south.

BTW FYI, I am not a native southerner, but I still feel that way about the area.

15. First, we southerners need to wake up and stop voting for the GOP
I long for the days when the Democratic presidential candidate would carry Alabama by 80 points.

12. Texas and we kick out the rethugs
Just to keep everyone interested, they should remember that Texas has historically been a very democratic state. Austin went 75-25 for Kerry. It is the carpet baggers in Houston and Dallas that have changed Texas for the worse.

Texas may not in the end remain Texas. It should be remembered that in the state annexation treaty that the state retains the option to split into 5 seperate states that would apply for individual annexation to the US. I can see 2 Demo, 2 Re-Thug and 1 50-50 if this were to happen.

8. if texas secedes, the freepers will immigrate en masse into Texas..
thus decreasing the population of freepers in other places and giving us the upper hand in elections in red states.

Did y'all know that if the nine county SF Bay Area were it's own country we would have the 21st largest economy in the world? People here make bucks! Funny how that works for the "Libruul" areas eh?
