Karen Hughes At The State Dept... Is This Where She Always Wanted To Be?
In the news today...

Announcement of Nominations of Karen P. Hughes as Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs and Dina Powell as Assistant Secretary of State For Educational and Cultural Affairs http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/WO0503/S00246.htm

We have something of a pattern emerging here - the administration has now appointed North Korean hornets nest poker John Bolton to the UN, Iran/Contra felon and Central America torture advocate Negroponte as intelligence Tsar, torture apologist Gonzales as AG, and Miss Rice "We never considered planes being used as weapons... (except in these memos)" as SoS - and now GWBs closest personal confidant is to becoem some sort of State Dept. propaganda supremo.

It seems to me that this administration is preparing for some hell of an onslaught on the rest of the world - and Latin America in particular.

But back to Karen Hughes new job.

Her being in the State department reminds me of something.

Remember if you will the sudden departure of Karen from the White House. It came in April 2002. She said it was for family reasons, but nobody really beleived that.

But for me it was timing of her departure which really interested me.

On the 19th of April we published an editorial about Colin Powell.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell, on returning to the United States from his peace mission to the Holy Land, should immediately resign.

Not because his mission was a failure - in fact considerable progress might have been made if that had been the intention of the rest of his administration. And Powell himself did an admirable job of lining up all his ducks in Madrid before confronting Sharon on his home territory.

Rather Colin Powell, formerly the only member of the Bush Administration with any credibility, ought to resign because he has been duped by his colleagues and used as a smokescreen.

Colin Powell’s peace mission, and his boss’s sudden change of heart on Israeli aggression, was nothing more than a smokescreen.

The real action was down in Venezuela, where it now appears US interests were engaged in engineering a coup against the elected President Hugo Chavez.

.... Was the US’s chief diplomat aware of the imminent coup in Venezeula when he left for his round of shuttle diplomacy in the Holy Land?

If he was then he looks as if he is a complete hypocrite.

And if he was not aware, then it looks as if he is being kept in the dark in critical areas of foreign policy by his colleagues.

.... perhaps Powell’s colleagues wanted to get him out of the way so they could get up to their dirty little games without him getting in the way?

Now, when Hughes suddenly resigned a couple of weeks later it occurred to me that her departure might just be a condition imposed by Powell that he stay on.

For Hughes to return now that Powell is gone, and to immediately take up a role in the State Dept, makes some peculiar sense if this were so.

You can sort of imagine who Powell must have felt on returning from his ME peace mission to discover that not only was he kept in the dark by his cabinet colleagues and clearly a few folks in his own department - Otto Reich for one.

And then to discover that Karen Hughes - a lowly presidential advisor - was up to her neck in the real action while he was being used as Otto's chump.

And now of course we have a whole series of Latin American hawks back in the ascendency. And for me at least Karen Hughes being among them - arguably the woman closest to * after Kaura - makes me very nervous for the likes of Hugo Chavez.

anyways...

just a few thoughts.

4. it's much more sleezy than that....it's all to entertain and amuse bush*
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 08:47 PM by diamond14
who must be propped up at all costs....condisleezi rice HAD to be moved out of OUR White House, because laura was PISSED about the bush*/condi affair, and public kissing, all of which was too public and blatant recently...and gannon is gone....

so, bush* offered condi ANYTHING as long as her office was NO LONGER in OUR White House....condi took colin's job, and THAT is a total disaster for OUR country....the job is GREAT for bush*/condi though....during bush* most recent trip to Europe...the bush*/condi affair STAYED in a luxury hotel in Brussels, while laura was shuffled off to appearances at the U.S. Military base in Germany....

anyhow, the bush*/condi affair is STILL too public, and it could a BIG bush* sex scandal for the "heartland" fundi christian coalition family-values crowd...

karen HUGE is there now, to run PUBLIC RELATIONS mostly for the bush*/condi affair (to keep the little chimp 'happy', but keep the gannon/bush* and bush*/condi stuff OUT OF THE PAPERS, and off TV)....

karen HUGE was the original LIAR that made up the bush* life-story....the ultimate glossy 'born-again' from previous drunken stupors and coked-out rages morphing into a pResidential candidate, with his proud father by his side....and every mother with a wayward son fawned over the whole idea, maybe their own son would one day also be BORN-AGAIN and become successful....and THAT is karen HUGE horror LIES that work....

the plan now, is to have karen HUGE spin her magic again....LIE about the bush*/condi affairs, and the gannon/bush* and other bald men and children SEX in OUR White House....added BONUS...karen HUGE will work closely with the STEPFORD wife, laura, to assure her and coddle her too....

US First Lady Laura Bush (R) and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appear at an International Women's Day event at the State Department. Bush urged women in the Middle East to press for democracy across the region as she met leaders from 15 Muslim nations to mark international women's day(AFP/Luke Frazza)

bush*/condi affair....February 22, 2005 IN BRUSSELS...

same day, February 22, 2005....laura bush* in Germany (shuffled off Ramstein U.S airbase in western Germany, so the bush*/condi affair can have some QUALITY time in a luxury Brussels hotel)...

6. let's see how the world at large likes Karen
my guess is they will not find her lying -- or herself--attractive

Karen is a spoiled brat. No one has ever challenged her successfully,(except for Karl) but she has been isolated in a small milieu. Her new job may prove impossible for her. She's smooth, but is diplomacy one of her skills? Wielding a big hammer is her talent. Everyone is scared of The Hulk.

7. That Condi out of the WH because of Laura is a stretch of rationalality.

Good joking, though.

My take is that Condi is a loyal destroyer and that is what is happening to us.

5. kick for those...
...who like me, sorta believed Hughes when she said she wanted to get back to Texas to "spend more time with her family." Whether or not that latter part was true, I thought she genuinely wanted to get the hell out of DC, for whatever reason. I wasn't so surprised when she came back during the campaign, but now this? Ugh.

11. Tis an attractive idea... but odd for someone so ambitious...
And if she was really a homebody or so inclined ... this seems like a mighty odd position to take. It is almost guaranteed never to be at home.

when she decided to leave DC (unfortunately, temporarily, it seems).

It seems as though she had a different title and it wasn't under the State Dept., but when she left she was the Director of Global Communications or some silly thing for which she was NOT qualified or credentialed.

Here's one interesting story from the Washington Post about the "Bin Laden" video that was - amazingly - "found" in some random house in Jalalabad after the U.S. invasion of Afganistan in November or December of 2001. Remember this one - it showed a VERY blurry "Bin Laden" giving plenty 'o verbal proof that he planned the September 11 attacks. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but the nose on that cat in the video was about five times as big as any photo of Bin Laden I've seen, and there were plenty of other questions about the veracity of the video.

Anyway, the decision on whether to release "information" on said video was "in the hands of Karen Hughes" back then:

http://www.papillonsartpalace.com/video.htm

I take videos and audio recordings on a case by case basis. I speak fluent Arabic, and there are those (they are the minority) that I believe to have been authentic over the past four years. This was not one of them - in fact, it would probably rank #1 on my list of bogus, fake propoganda floats made by this administration.

20. I remember that....
The office of Global Communications was set up after Rumsfeld's Office of Special Information - task.... lie to foreign media... was canned.

A useful piece of the puzzle.

Up to her neck in it she is.

22. I agree (I think!)
If spinning a positive light on the indefensible foreign policy and practices of this administrations is what you mean when you say it is an impossible job, I'm right there with you!

But putting the U.S. in a positive light in the Muslim world is FAR from impossible. In fact, it is so simple most any "moran" could do the job. Just tell the truth, and follow the Golden Rule. There is no better way to "win hearts and minds" anywhere than doing unto others as you'd have done to you.

Good grief! Our government invests so much freaking time and energy into circumventing the right way to do things (and money, I should add). It is depressing. If we truly cared about defending freedom and democracy around the world, none of the silly PR positions would exist. Our actions would speak for themselves!
