"You don't just win the prize--you STEAL it!"
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 03:49 PM by rocknation
So goes the slogan for tonight's premiere of Court TV's newest show "Impossible Heists."

The web site goes on to brag, "It's like Ocean's 11 meets Survivor!...Two teams...are challenged to execute a complex and physically demanding heist while trying to elude the highest-tech security..." And by an incredible stroke of luck, the contestants (or should they be called perps?) all just happen to be hotties!

(One minority? Check. One Hispanic-sounding name? Check. One homosexual? Probably.)

Since when is theft something that should be prized and encouraged? Should this be considered reality television, never mind entertainment? And should it be on Court TV, who are supposed to be on the side of law and order? I enjoy their forensic and investigative real-crime shows (not the psychic ones), but maybe that's because I never have to wonder who the good guys are.

Maybe this wouldn't bother me so much if it weren't so soon after the the Nichols rampage. And the massacre in that church. And the four-year old who shot his younger brother. And the man who killed an acquaintence with an axe in broad daylight on a London street (I guess HE couldn't get his hands on a gun). And the gun that went off in a 7-year-old's bookbag. And the man who may have settled a bar fight by firing an assault rifle through the sunroof of a Jaguar...When did lawlessness become so--so POP?

1. At least it's more realistic than a "Survivor" show where nobody dies

2. I don't know
Oceans 11 and The Italian Job were two of my favorite movies over the last couple of years, but I suspect because both were about the glamour of crime - criminals who don't hurt other people, but only hurt those who deserve it (I guess). It's fantasy, I know.
