Listening to Randi's show this afternoon. She read a letter from a father who has a son in Iraq. The father is a registered republican and lives on Singer Island in Palm Beach County (definitely upscale).
In his letter he tells Randi his son joined the army after 9-11 to serve his country. The boy is now living in a chicken coop in Baghdad which is a step-up from his previous accomodations. He is eating only 2 MRE's a day and has lost 30 lbs. The dad reports his son is telling him he and his division are not getting enough protein. The kid is asking for canned meats or whatever he can get. The kid has been told on three occasions he would be sent back to the states soon and each time it is postponed. Now he has been told he will maybe get home for 2 weeks in Jan/Feb of 2004 and then sent to Korea for 10 months and after that back to Iraq for 10 months. Needless to say the dad is very upset. He doesn't plan to vote for der bush in 2004 and is looking into the Dean campaign.
Randi has posted information on her web site: www.therandirhodesshow.com for any who would like to send the kid and his division mail. Randi said she would collect canned meats for his division (is that the right terminology?). A representative from the grassroots dems called and said her organization would donate 100 cans each of chicken and tuna.
Then a guy from fed-x called up and said his company could fly mail into Iraq but not food or clothes or the guys would have to pay taxes on it!!! WTF does he mean by taxes!!!!!
Go to Randi's web site if you want to write these kids.
I am old enough to be the mom of the kids. I don't support this war, the warcrimes occuring, etc. I want our guys out but my heart breaks at the way this regime is treating the troops.
